I love playing with very creative players in my midfield three, so my IWBs are mainly defence first. My favorite attributes for them are all the physicals, composure, decisions, concentration and high technique. This is so that they can do decently well in possession and be difficult to get passed without the ball.
@tombkingsethbattlechannel94193 ай бұрын
First :D very well explained. The inverted WB is really underused and, in my opinion, a must have if u are playing with a winger cause usually WB or FB on the same side are kinda useless or lets say the dont really contribute anything to ur game except of defending. Maybe also worth mentioning that BBM´s or BWM´s are great options to retrain as an inverted wingback cause usually the have the passing, tackling, workrate and stamina for that role.

@allezxander12323 ай бұрын
You can play Wb or fb with a winger and get good results. Use the underlap team instruction, tell your winger to cut inside, tell the full back to sit narrower, etc. There's a lot you can do to make it work
@ianresc36153 ай бұрын
I never really used them, because I either played with two DM's or didn't have the right players to play in that role. After all, they need to be good at passing and are basically wide DM's. That is one of the reasons I like to retrain certain DM's to be able to play in the WB position rather than in other central positions.
@lukaszprotas3 ай бұрын
But if u use SV, IWB is q great choice 😉
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
Great points. It reminds me a bit of the libero. You don't necessarily look for a centerback, but look for a midfielder that you can retrain and fit a centerback/libero.
@mattyzucks3 ай бұрын
the first clip you show is a good example of why this role might not actually be as great as people think it is; you are very exposed on the flanks when your IWBs come inside, so if you are playing teams that use Wingers, especially Wingers on attack duty, you can get destroyed on the counterattack. IWB can't just be played by any fullback or converted midfielder; to mitigate the risks he really must have good pace, acceleration, positioning, work rate and anticipation. Otherwise you can get really caught out. Your videos are great btw, this is a great breakdown just like all your others. keep up the good work
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
this is a great point, thanks for the addition. I think any time you have a role pushing forward from the back (libero, wide centerback, etc...), you have to be careful about the other roles around him and/or pay attention to what happens when you lose possession of the ball. I think that's why Kyle Walker is so good... if he's ever caught out, he just uses his incredible speed to make up for it haha and glad you're enjoying the videos!
@mattyzucks3 ай бұрын
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymakeryeah Kyle Walker is like the perfect guy for this role, absolutely. Not saying it's a bad role at all, just have to be discerning about who you stick in there

I'm really enjiying your videos. Keep up the great work 👏🏾. 2 questions: In your tactic for the day would an IW(A) be a better in place of the IF(A) to create space for the box to box and offer some width before the WB get's high. Secondly what is your resoning on the choice of striker role?
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words! As for your questions: 1) And do you mean the Pacific FC tactic (the one with the wingback and inverted wingback)? I think that could absolutely work! But we had a ton of success with that tactic (we were actually able to win the league!), so I thought keep it going until it stops working haha. We got on a hot streak so I kept it the same. 2) For the striker, I love the DLF in a 433 because he drops into that space in the attacking midfield area, but he still has the attacking prowess of a tradional striker. Makes for a great combo in the tactic

Sir DLP, Can u bring about the difference between DLP support and DM support? I am still confused because the role looks the same in match. Thank you
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
I'll see if I can do a dedicated video on it, but the short answer is that the playmaker would have more of a passing range than the defensive midfielder. The playmaker also has the "focus play" hidden instruction, meaning his teammates will look to pass to him more often (good if you want to play a possession style). But like you noticed they do occupy the same spaces in the midfield. Thank you for the question, hope that helps!

Is Inverted wingback on attack different to Complete wingback on attack with cut inside player instructions?
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
that's a great question! If I'm honest, I don't know if I've ever tried the CWB with that player instruction, but you've given me a good idea for my next playthrough! My guess is that the CWB would stay out wide and then cut inside when they have the ball, and an IWB would be inside even if they didn't have the ball. In this video, when the IWB(A) scores the goal, he's already in the midfield; I imagine a CWB would've been wider and then try to get into the midfield (if that makes sense). The CWB also has "roam from position" so he may go wherever he wants anyway haha. Anyway, that was probably more than you wanted haha but thank you for the question!!
@josephchambers45093 ай бұрын
So even if one of the two DMs is something like a "Segundo Volante" or "Roaming Playermaker" who vacates that DM slot during possession the IWB on that side won't tuck in?
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
Nah, I think I was wrong in this one. I believe it was more with a holding midfielder (like an anchor) or with older versions. It should be working like a normal IWB when you use a role like the SV. Anyway, sorry for the confusion! I've edited the video to remove that part, thank you for brining the issue to my attention.

Loved the video! I had no idea that IWB are essentially WB when there are 2 or more DMs. In my current tactic I use an IWB with a VOL as the adjacent DM, and just assumed the IWB would take the position of the VOL when in possession as the VOL would push up but i guess thats not the case?
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
It's funny, but it may be a case by case basis? I was under the impression that he functions more like a WB, but maybe with the postional play in FM24 and you have a SV, your IWB will fill in that space? I think one of the coded instructions is to sit narrower, but I guess if your tactic has it working, than keep at it!

@meesterpitta3 ай бұрын
Another great video! I love using an IWB though I do realise they have become very meta in this game, with most engine breaking tactics utilising two IWBs. I try to keep my tactics somewhat grounded in reality so I like to use an IWB on defend or support on one side and a IFB on the other in a 433, creating the coveted 325 with a box midfield. The rest defence also makes it so the defensive pivot can be given more playingmaking freedom instead of having to screen the defence. Your caveats also show why stupid formations work a lot better this year. Players are much more intelligent than previous years where they react to their teammates' positioning creating more positional structure instead of occupying the same space like they used to do. Also for the profile of player, I generally look for relatively quick defensive midfielders for the IWB role and retrain them. Someone like Rongier is a perfect IWB.
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
Oooo I love that idea for using an IWB and an IFB together, I'll have to try that out haha. I used the two IWB in the first part of the video for the sake the example, but the Pacific FC tactic I showed would be more in line how I would use it. And I'm the same, usually my tactics are pretty normal (at least I think they are lol), and I like to use an IWB on one side and a WB on the other

Can you talk about the inverted full back? I don't quite understand the difference between IFB and IWB
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker3 ай бұрын
The inverted fullback will act more like an extra centeral defender and tuck inside when you have possession, and the inverted wingback acts like an extra midfielder. the IFB is good if you're using a libero in a back-4, or if you just want to provide more defensive cover in your back line
