A similar point exists between Turkey, Iran, Armenia and Nakhichevan, and the width of the connecting piece here is very limited as well. There exists only a land bridge (not rail one) between Nakhichevan and Turkey. This used to be a perfect quadripoint, but Turkey acquired land from Persia in early XX century to gain a corridor to Nakhichevan.

Canada also has a quadripoint that few outside of Canada likely know about-the point where Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut meet.
@kenaikuskokwim96947 ай бұрын
This channel recently covered Nunavut. Now you get into layers of definition-- four independent nations, four US states (with sovereignty shared with their federation), two provinces and two territories... There is a rural crossroads near us where four counties meet; I drove the family in a circle around it. Incidentally, U-Haul has Nunavut-themed trailers, but you cannot drive them into the territory as there are no roads leading in. Maybe they can be ferried.

I think the strip of land in Botswana that protrudes between Namibia and Zimbabwe on one side of the Zambezi River is about 150 metres (499 ft) wide. Then the borders of all three countries extend into the river. Zambia is on the other bank of the Zambezi River. This piece of Botswana is just wide enough for a lookout or a road. I think it is small enough to qualify for a quadripoint border, rather than a tripoint border.
@mikesands46817 ай бұрын
If it was like six feet apart and you could touch all four at same time, then yes. But 100 meters is too far.

A quadripoint is practically useless as you cannot cross into the fourth country without violating the territory of either the 'left' or 'right' neighbor unless your width is infinitely small.

Why does Hancock, Maryland exist?
@patrickgallagher90697 ай бұрын
I would not consider it a quadrapoint. First, it's not, as you pointed out. Second, there's a bridge between two of the four countries, specifically in the short border between them. Third, that weird extension of Namibia has some intentional reason for it (that I forgot) that is somehow related. But the details matter in my opinion. Two tripoints. But still interesting to think about. Thanks!

Can you cross from Namibia to Zimbabwe by showing your passport only once (by a boat maybe)? Or can you ship good between these 2 countries without dealing any other customs? All 4 countries should be “connected”, right? So I rely on passport/customs checkpoints by land/water.

There is actually at least one place in the world where FIVE places meet up like that. I'm not sure what you'd call that--a heptapoint or a septapoint? Anyways, it's in the middle of Nevis island, where five parishes of of St. Kitts and Nevis meet up in the middle of the island (the parishes are (1) Saint George Gingerland, (2) Saint James Windward, (3) Saint John Figtree, (4) Saint Paul Charlestown, and (5) Saint Thomas Lowland.)
