This scumbag committed over 1600 crimes and was sentenced to 48 months. That's less than 1 day per theft. How about sentencing this cheap thief to 48 years instead. If he made $1 million, he was making $250,000 per year, tax free. No way 48 months will have an effect on this.

It’s hard to feel bad for them. It’s like caring that a thief that stole from you got robbed. It’s very sad. I’ve been paying taxes for a long time. I don’t feel like working anymore. I need to apply for EBT before it runs out. Get my money back.

I believe it has to be somewhat of an inside job. Maybe not a centralized crime ring, but there definitely has to be someone with access to individuals private information along with knowledge of when deposits are hitting. I know someone that had their funds stolen within 20 minutes of their deposits hitting. The perpetrators even changed the pin to the account in an effort to access the funds again after the govt reimbursed a portion of the funds. It may not be one guy working in IT selling all this information on the dark web, but it could be several individual perpetrators working at several local MediCal/Social Worker offices selling a list of individuals that hey have worked with. It's a shame because it really hurts the most vulnerable.

P.S. it's not "all tied to skimming" as one the interviewees states, as the person I have in mind had just physically received their new card that had not been used at all prior to the theft.

That’s how it done in the UK and Nordic countries who pay social benefits.I don’t buy the oh I don’t or can’t open a bank account.
