I love your channel, and how you try to educate people, and explain how the investment world instead of giving semi-risky financial advice. And I know the following has nothing to do with it, but if anyone reads this, especially Russians: Your president is invading Ukraine, your military has already killed hundreds of civilians, children, women and pets, and it gets worse by hour. And instead of admitting to his crimes, Putin is saying that Ukrainians need to be denazified. Complete absurdity is happening to your brothers and sisters in Ukraine, and unfortunately, neither NATO, nor EU countries are doing anything to stop this genocide and occupation on time. Maybe a Russian reads this, or someone knows somebody living in Russia, and can inform about the horror happening over the border. Please protest, don't let the history repeat itself. Slava Ukraini.

The funky thing about inflation right now is that it is hard to gauge how bad inflation is really. This is partially because not only have demand and supply changed, but also the mix of goods people want has changed(for example: see graphics cards. About as many graphics cards likely made their way into pcs as always, but there are a lot more people who want a pc rn). This means that actually getting good measurements on how prices have actually changed is somewhat difficult, and this makes the existing difficulties with getting reasonable measures of inflation worse.

I've worked at a "top" crypto exchange for almost two years. They're spot on about these digital assets, except speculation is much more obscene in this industry. I've dealt with so many projects that simply want retail traders to buy so they can sell. Be very careful with your hard earned money. It interest is outlawed for low-wager earners, they will have almost no avenue for financing when needed. As those earning a non-living wage are often already limited as far as non-predatory options go, it would be a shame to throw out even the halfway decent options. The most important thing is to reign in predatory lending - payday lenders and others with similarly horrible interest and terms.

@JamesDecker72 жыл бұрын
Any basic advice is as follows: 1) Investments are NEVER safe. Only invest what you can afford to lose. 2) Define your short term and long term goals before you decide to invest 3) Use tools that have a proven record but know the risks (Index funds with low/no cost through a bank you trust, real estate, etc) 4. Know your tolerance for risk and how much time you want to spend managing investments 5. Start early, be consistent, and let compounding work FOR you 6. Never use leverage unless you know what you are doing 7. Never crest debt unless you know how and when you will be paying it off and are pretty sure the benefits outweigh the costs. . . . PROFIT! 🤷♂️ EDIT: If it looks too good to be true it probably IS!

I’m curious of how far they can go with rate increases considering the addiction to spending from the government and existing debt.
@vulpixelful2 жыл бұрын
From a US perspective, the government isn't like a household, it can run on a deficit while stimulating the domestic and international economy with its debt. Infrastructure spending is a good example of this; the US government gets its "money back" in productivity and property tax increases from places just being better places to live. People also get jobs from these projects, and this gives them more money to spend, but also invest. _Both_ parties don't mind the deficit as long as it gives them what their donors want anyway...
@InfiniteQuandary2 жыл бұрын
I'm frustrated that Mr. Coffin's advice to dealing with an increasingly challenging financial landscape with diminishing returns is to start sooner. While that can be sound advise for those who may have the timing and opportunity, it's not pliable enough to apply broadly, i.e. doesn't help anyone with limited skill sets, those lacking resources to (good) financial education/advisors or those that have endured this financial landscape for years, if not decades. This is especially not the right audience for this kind of advice. And I'd be open to additional takes, but my instincts say that the solution to these problems don't lie strictly within the financial sector and there are VERY few people who would be willing to provide more holistic advice.
@LoganT1012 жыл бұрын
I feel like Richard’s point boils down to “the best time to start investing was yesterday. The second best time to start investing is today.” Chasing higher returns often leads to taking on more risk. That kind of advise isn’t beneficial to a wide audience. The best advise for such a wide audience is going to be on budgeting and recommending someone to make regular, preauthorized, contributions to their (well diversified) investment portfolio. Regression to the mean lurks around every investment so having a good plan that you can stick to is much more important than chasing high returns. My two cents on it anyway.
