Thanks for sharing. I haven't used a broker since i started my account in December of 2021. I just use the resources that are available to me, youtube, the various brokers website and see what they value the company at and finally news. Then i purchase. But it's always best to take that first step. Now I'm trying to educate myself so i can make better choices to get to my goal.

Liked and subscribed. Question- suppose I want to use dollar cost averaging for a particular stock meaning buying a stock and leaving it over years before selling it, do i need to watch to see if the stock is going up or down. 2) What's the difference between buying a stock at a high price vs buying it at a low price and does it matter?
@learngrowinvest
@learngrowinvest 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. Dollar cost averaging means you're not concerned really with the stock price, instead you're buying consistently whether each month, each quarter, etc. For your second question, its hard to say if a stock price is too high, price is only one of the factors to consider for an investment. Usually a "low" price is associated with the Price to Earnings (P/E) for the company being low, which again doesn't necessarily make the investment a buy or even the right fit for you. I recommend watching our Fundamental Analysis video to see some of the factors to consider when purchasing a stock.

That's great news Ruthann. You can open a brokerage account in Jamaica for J$5,000. You can try VM, JMMB or Sagicor I believe are currently at the low end in terms of amount to open the account. You'll have access to the funds once the account is opened.

How do you choose to buy common vs preference?
@learngrowinvest
@learngrowinvest 2 жыл бұрын
It really starts with your goal for investing. The preference shares will have consistent (coupon) dividend payments, so if that's your priority then choose that option. Otherwise common stock provides opportunity for capital gains, so if that's your priority then focus there. Hope this helps

@@learngrowinvest How can you predict if the a stock price will fall or rise ?
@learngrowinvest
@learngrowinvest 3 жыл бұрын
@@dwayneoneil689 You can assume it will go up or down based on certain factors but you can't predict. It's impossible to predict the future results of a company. Factors that drive prices up/down. 1. Positive Earnings 2. Sentiment 3. News/Events etc. So you research, forecast, then based on that data make an assumption that certain factors can lead to a favorable outcome - either up or down.

@@learngrowinvest Ok, Thanks for the response,just to add to question. I heard someone said when you look on the queue for say a particular stocks and base on the amount of order to sell if is more than orders to buy then the stock will go down on that particular day is this true ?
@learngrowinvest
@learngrowinvest 3 жыл бұрын
@@dwayneoneil689 I think they are referring to whats called Selling Pressure. Think about it. If many people want to sell more than those who want to buy, the sellers may start to offer lower prices in order to sell their shares faster or to beat the other sellers. You can't speak to absolutes but that's a reasonable assumption in some cases.
