Thanks for this distinction. Thanks for stirring up a powerful memory of my grandmother who in her limited understanding and ingrain mindset of lack and fear, believed "the stocks is like the 'policies.' " Until one day the lady that she did laundry and housekeeping showed her a dividend check; her only source of income left by her deceased husband. Revelation was quick! It stuck. Grandmother had clarity and die at age 96 healthy, wealthy, and having given sound knowledge about investing and gambling to many. Keep sharing Amon and Christina. If only I could get my husband to understand this post right here! He has put so much into Crpyto only to see it go down, yet he still puts more money in there. It is heartbreaking... I invest in the stock market despite his misplaced optimism in ISO20222 coins, particularly XRP, sigh.

Monitoring is important. I decided to sell some of my Nvidia. I put my initial investment (cost basis)in something less volatile. I had an 82% annual return.

This is a great comparison between investing and gambling. It will help me talk about the difference with our children. The long term investing is the key and the most apparent difference between gambling and investing.

People like/ want a "sure thing" that's why they'll spend $5,000 on an International vacation but will look at You like you've stepped off of a Spaceship if you suggest they put $100 into a Roth IRA every month with some simple ETFs that are essentially assured long term results.

Thanks for this! Over the years, I have made the distinction that the House Always Wins in gambling. They are not able to sustain those huge hotels otherwise. The flip-side, in how I look at investing, is research and consistency for dollar cost averaging. While I understood this huge difference, you really outlined several other key points of differences!!! I do love to buy the occasional $10 scratch off for the million dollars, It is NOT an investment strategy for my long-term goals.
