Hi sir, i have a query regarding my fathers ulip plan, which he bought in jun 2010 for premium paying term of 15 years. He pays annual premium of 50k. Now he want to surrender after 13 years of paying premium. Do he require to pay taxes on surrender value. And will insurance company deduct some tax from his fund value. Pls note that my father is retired govt employee and pay tax on pensions. Appreciate your quick response

Can someone answer, when I surrender after 5 years for a 15yr term, do I get the current net asset value? For example, 5 lakhs invested are now 9 lakhs, so do I get 9 lakhs minus whatever the fund value and other charges?

They will check min. Surrender value or total fund value whichever amount is higher, you will get that. But in most cases surrender value is lesser than fund value.

Pension plans are not tax friendly When you surrender, the money you receive is taxable. If you continue the policy till vesting date, the accumulated value on that date becomes the corpus for annuity plan. Some pension plans offer some withdrawal option. The annuity you get is also fully taxable, it gets added to your taxable income.

I have ICICI Elite wealth plus ULIP and I just finished 5 yrs of lock-in period. I wish to surrender the policy as I am not happy with the returns as well as in need of funds. I was told it can be done online and there isnt any need to visit the insurance office. I am clueless about doing the same online because when I requested it online by logging in, I did make the surrender request but there wasnt any mail or any message about the action taken. HDFC Life is the worst company, Branch manager of HDFC back cheated me and sold policy. He commited that ULIP has 4% profit per month and i asked for 20k premium but he said i am with u and next premium he will pay and given me policy of 1Lac premium and he joined Axis bank and not given single rupee. Later i came to know that on my 1 Lac he got 30k commission.
