Usually I'd go heavy on artillery and infantry than artillery and skirmishers. Mainly because artillery are already brutal enough for long range killing and you need a ton of adept swordsmen to crash through their defences. I'd just go by heir of Carthages rule of 4 with skirmishers.

You had quite a bit fewer men deployed on your side than the defenders. Defenders do not need nearly as many men to defend a fortification.

Ó Slatraigh That ultimately killed the interest in good dedication for me. This surely could be made better. They did the effort, now you can just get some item and exchange it with class epic, but it is better only for newcomers :) Hence I skipped till Wotlk, killed Arthas just for the sake of the love of lore, and left for good. Hands down it had and still have the best storyline/lore and artwork.

Some tips that might help next time: Be more specific with your artillery as to which chunks of wall you take down then load archers in your towers to position them on the wall to rain death from above, send either hoplites or pikes with them to choke entrances so swords dont flatten your archers. This is risky though since your skirmishers aren't covered from theirs so pick your targets well. Also when pikes plug breaches use ballista exploding shot to clear them out, that way you get easy kills by expending ammo not units

In your case of leveling most of the walls, I tend to lock a siege tower to one of those standing sections and send archers up. It gets them a pretty great position of high ground, immune to cav, and easy to protect against infantry using the tower crew. I don't know how good it is against humans, but it works great vs AI. (I do campaign, not a multiplayer guy).

I thought rome was shit for months when I got it release day, played for maybe an hour. After installing a recent mod pack plus the fixes they've done I enjoy it a lot more! I used to jittery stuff when moving on the campaign map and in battle, even on lowest settings but now its all gone and its amazing. Plus without that ugly yellow tint its nice.

At this points its really hard to siege a well defended city in rtw 2 with success, if the armys are roughly the same size. In reality you often need, if i remember right, a 3 to 1 ratio of soldiers as attacker to defeate the defending army. But if you bring that much artillery, i wouldn't invest the money in sword units and towers, because there will be so much holes. I think mass phalanx units, mass archers / peltasts and some elite cav ( or elephants ) for mobility and to protect the artillery / archers would be more efficient. So, either bring tower, some artillery for towers, mass swords, cav and mass archers ( shooting from the taken walls ), or artillery, mass phalanx units, mass archers and some elite cav. Depends on faction too of course. But maybe it isn't a bad idea to give the defender smaller armys and the attacker little bit bigger, so it will still be a challenge for the defender to hold the choke points. If the defending army is as big or even bigger as the attacking army, than the chance losing the battle for the defender is nearly inexistent, if they don't make massive mistake in the battle or with the army composition. But really nice vid, i like it. Very atmospheric. Would have been even more atmospheric if the defenders would have choosen rome as faction. Without phalanx units it would also have been a bigger challenge to defend the city.

No use for siege towers? Roll them into the city through gaps in the walls, they provide cover from archers and can be used as "Armoured Transport Vehicles." Use those to transport more elite units to hotly contested areas with lots of enemy missile fire.

Buddy, you brought 4 pikemen to a city assault. You need heavy infantry to take a city not a butt ton of archers and skirmishers. Javelins and arrows run out and then they are useless. To take a city you need to breach the walls everywhere and then flank, save like 3+ javelin men squads exclusively for pike blobs. Strike from all sides and keep pressure up so the enemy can't make decisions but has to react to you. Those wall rams are reusable probably so take the wall down everywhere. Save your artillery for towers and blobs of infantry. If you have to attack from 1 side break the entire wall down so you have clear ballista views of the inner roads.

Sorry for the late reply, but they were going to make one for Rome 2, but then Attila came out and they decided to make it for that (it's still under development) or you can wait for Total War Warhammer to come out
