She presents herself as the stereotypical Liberated Woman and is upset that Mark had any priorities other than her, even knowing that those priorities were protecting the defenseless and trying to right wrongs in the world. It's roughly analogous to what she's doing by volunteering, but she's too myopic to see that people can work in any way that she hasn't pre-approved.

Even though he turned out to be a psycho, they really wrote Omni-Man with a lot of realistic Dad qualities, like the fact that he will just sort of lecture you and drag on about things he's already told you, just to impart wisdom. And they wrote Mark so well too. In any other show, he would "GOSH, Dad! I know!" But here he respects his Dad so much that he gives him a quick "Mhm, mhm, mhm." Such a charming interaction that makes the final episode of the season hurt so much more.

He never was crazy, he’s a Viltrimite. He has to conquer the planet or he’s killed. He wanted Mark to join him so he could save him, maybe show him the ropes of his people. But Omni Man also changed. In the comics, he wrote some crappy science fiction books that turn out to be instructions on how to kill viltrimites. Earth more or less changed him

@@its_north Basically the mentality for why people don't recognize Superman is Clark Kent is this: if you were a super-powered alien with godlike powers, why would you want to spend most of your days as an unmemorable newspaper columnist? It seems too mundane for someone with so much power. So people likely just write that off as "some guy with a similar face" even though it's glaringly obvious. Heck, Lex Luthor had an assistant figure out Clark Kent was Superman once before and fired her because he couldn't even conceive the notion that Superman would ever want to be someone other than Superman.

I really love the bit of humor in Nolan being this unbelievably powerful being beyond all human comprehension, yet he still struggles with silly little shit like "oh I got something stuck to the back of my clothes and I can't quite reach it"

I love how this scene starts with the cliche that a superhero needs to save the lives of many instead of being selfish, but the show twists that concept, and it instead becomes a scene about Omni man trying to explain that everyone on earth might need to die for their alien race to live.

Rewatching this, I get a hint of shame and maybe guilt when omniman mentions Viltrimites responsibilities. If he was fully gone, imo he'd be saying that with more pride, eager for his son to eventually learn the truth about those "responsibilities"... but i think he has a chance for redemption as he looks away with sadness in his eyes.
