You can, actually. The differences are subtle, but they’re present. Mark is the smaller and slimmer of the two. Thragg is noticeably bigger and bulkier. The intervention of Rex by sending Mark his armor also helps. Once the armor is destroyed, Mark is in much better shape than Thragg is. Mark still has his nose and facial features (relatively speaking) while Thragg has lost his. It’s a pretty clever way to keep clarity present in the fight.

Robot bought him some time while Thragg had no help and even then, Mark was far more motivated (and thus was able to suppress his pain) as he actually had something to fight for.

As much as invincible has had to overcome with his defeats, his power boosts and healing over time have given him the pain tolerance and toughness necessary to fight in those kinds of conditions. Compared to Thragg who’s always used to winning convincingly or not being challenged at all (aside from that classic war with Battle Beast), fighting in the sun wasn’t even a challenge for him. It’s like Bane said in TDKR, “Peace has cost you your strength, victory has defeated you.” One of the most under appreciated lines ever! And it’s on display with this battle and the whole story leading up to it. Great writing.

Mark's monologue is perfect. Everything he's fought and suffered for has come down to this moment. But my favorite line is when he states that the Viltrumites were always good people deep down and they just weren't ever going to know it had Thragg stayed in charge. "It proves there was a compassion in our people...always there beneath the surface, buried under all that strength and fury. It's there, waiting to be nurtured so it can grow."

In that speech, Mark was calling Thragg out as a failure not only as a leader but also as a viltrumite. Thragg never saw the viltrumites' potential beyond conquering worlds and expanding their empire. As a result the viltrumites' home world was destroyed and they were driven to the brink of extinction. Under Thragg's rule, what the viltrumites really accomplished was give the Universe a reason to hate and fear them. Thragg's pride prevented him from realizing what he did was wrong and instead clung to the old ways that brought his people to the brink of extinction, fought for selfish and empty causes, and held his people back from achieving their true potential.

Mark being rescued by Allen was however the demonstration of Mark's monologue against Thragg: Mark had someone to save him, Thragg was alone. Having a few panels of Mark just burning while accepting his death before being rescued would've built up much more suspense, though.

I’m not the kind of guy who’s first instinct would be to kill my enemy, but Mark honestly was right to kill him. Thragg was a dangerous man who was just going to kill again and again. He didn’t need to continue his reign. There was no need to keep him around. Same as with Conquest. I absolutely love the "Your fighting for revenge. I'm fighting for my people" moment. Calling back to Thragg's battle against Thokk "You're fighting for glory. I'm fightinf for my people" is just the goddamn hardest line in this entire fight. It also shows one of the big reasons why Mark wins is because while Thragg is fighting for only himself, Mark is fighting for himself and everyone he holds dear. And people that fight for that can and will go farther than their own mind and body will tell them to stop.

If you think about it, Thragg's selfishness and pride doomed him in the end. He clinged to the old Viltrumite ways of conquest and social darwinism, and only valued strength. As a result his home planet, Viltrum, was destroyed and his people were on the brink of extinction. All his desires for power and conquest accomplished was give the universe a reason to hate and fear the Viltrumites. Thragg claimed to fight for his people but the truth was he cared for no one but himself. He didn't even care for his own people. Thragg only saw his people as soldiers, weapons, a means for conquest, and only valued them because they were useful to him. Even Thragg's own children abandoned him because he wouldn't fight for them, yet he expected them to fight for him. Thragg died alone with no one to mourn him. Under Mark and Nolan's leadership, the Viltrumites were allowed to be more than just soldiers. They were given a chance to be people, make lives of their own, discover love and compassion, and start families because they want to, not just to replenish their population. Part of Mark's effectiveness also comes from how very angry he was at Thragg at the time. That level of hate can impart a significant level of endurance in order to see the other person suffer and die.

Thragg cared about no one and no one cared about him, what he fought for made him weaker (marks thoughts not mine). Also Allen beat the shit out of Nolan in his second zenkai boost, in this he’s in his third after that assassination attempt- he is vastly stronger afterwards. Allen would not win against Thragg but it would def be a good ass fight and Allen would def get some injuries off onto Thragg.
