Invisible Barriers is a new short film that introduces how Girl Effect's locally rooted media brands and technology platforms are smashing the cultural and social norms that hold so many girls back from reaching their full potential.
Using the unique visual animation style of Mushtashrik Mahbub and an original poem penned by Nigerian-born performance poet, Bassey Ikpi, the film dramatizes the complexities of a girl’s life in poverty. It shows that whilst organisations are making incredible strides in providing the health, education, safety and financial services that girls across the developing world need and deserve, social norms often prevent girls from accessing them.
Bassey’s powerful words speak directly to the realities of girls’ lives and deliver an inspiring and rousing message of hope: that by breaking down these “Invisible Barriers” we can create a new normal where girls can reach their full potential.
