If you fall on hard times, get sick or have a family tragedy you can spiral downwards very fast. We should not judge. I'm a 62 year old RN, spent a few years homeless and living outside due to cancer and getting fired in a small town. No family. After a year of living outside and spending every day in the library applying for jobs and learning new skills I picked myself up. got a place to live, and am still currently indoors and working. Most people all want the same things- safety, a bit secure, food, water, shelter and cleanliness. What is so excessive like this.

I spent a lot of time with Marty while I was on the streets in Austin. We had many long talks, and we looked out for each other. Let me tell you guys, he is stubborn as a mule, but a decent man. Watching this made me understand a lot of why I did the things I did just to get through the days. The summers are miserably hot! And that winter storm was a beast in a tent. But Marty is a good man, who made a terrible mistake when he was just a kid. But to all of those who walk past them and snub your nose as though they are lesser....Know that most of you are just one paycheck from being there too. Though I am housed, and have been for a year now, being out there really f-ed up my head. It is a difficult thing to get through.....Be kind.....You don't have to give money, but at least acknowledge your fellow man......

Ok, this is a pertinent conversation. Some of us were abused in a way that we also cannot be held in a closed space, need a way out, even if in a 'home or apt'. Can't be surrounded by alot of people, like parking lot tiny homes. That's why homeless is better, alot of times. Living in the wilderness in a car or van. It's safety, until you get attacked. Geez. People need be more compassionate. And some of us never hurt anyone, aren't on drugs or alcohol, just want a space where people aren't trying to use or control us. The landlord income requirements are worse than he says. In Austin, what landlords typically require is that you make three times the amount of the rent to be considered as a resident, so to rent a $700-dollar-a-month place (an almost unheard-of bargain for Austin), you'd be required to make at least $2,100 dollars a month to even be considered for a place, and that's the norm throughout Austin, many other places, too. It is messed up.

Buying them food, offering a shower or getting them medical help, listening.. stuff like that. If god exists, he already knows about our issues. And since he's all powerful, he obviously doesn't care to interfere. Otherwise things would be different yeah? If he exists, he's not stepping in. But even when you've been given affordable housing (that you can really afford) after being homeless you are still controlled by the system. That's a lost life, for himself and the society. What could he have become to be a part of society, rather than spitted out by the same. The US should finally become what it's saying it allegdly is, a democracy! End homelessness, poverty, indebtness while studying or being sick and that could be done with a pen stroke if there were a political will. Unfortunately other things like wars, abroad and at home*, are more important than that. It makes me pretty sick watching these humanly avoidable tragedies again and again.

@@jlc556 Who cares anyway? I mean the states and the federal government. You know it could be otherwise, easely! We have homelessness, or better said, not home owners, in my country too. Deregulated or unregulated housing markets (the federal states are responsible for social housing programs) have "destroyed" the ability to have enough social housing for people in need and with little money. Sharkes bought of social housing blocks in nearly every big city and the government)governments neglected construction of social housing units (600,000 units are missing). "Deliberated" housing markets and desinterest in building more affordable housing units are the reason WE are in this mess. The US doesn't even have regulated housing markets, prizes, or housing programs worth the name or requirements, giving the needs at all. Gentrification, "eviction" of renters by "modernization" of the former social/affordable housing units by unscrupulous rent sharks drives the market, the people crazy. Berlin, Munich and Stuttgard are cities you, as a normal wage owner, can't live in. You pay at least 2/3 of your income on housing. And it doesn't stop, other bigger towns have the same problems. It's not so the case that we have a huge amount of rough sleepers, but younger people were forced to live within their parents house or flat. They don't have a own home, bc they can't afford it. Estimations by NGO's say over a million affordable units are missing, at least 600,000. You have the fundamental, while written in our Basic Law, right to have a roof over your head here in Germany. im not trying to be judgemental. but if you did not want housing then the only choice was to live outside. if he had mental problems why did he not get help for his claustrophobia. sometimes people dont want to give all the facts for their situation. i wish him well.

Jesus offers hope. He's coming again and then sudden destruction. The WHO is taking the reins of our country and Im pretty sure it won't be good for homeless people. It's terrible. There is hope and his name is Yeshua Ha'mashiac/Jesus Christ.
