I haven't seen this show since I was 13. It definitely made an impact on me and it had a positive message. For many people, success comes at a high price. Compared to today's television, this seems innocent in some ways. For example, he fought to literally save his family and he resisted that secret society. This movie contains truth.

I just discovered this movie a few nights ago as a KZbin recommendation. I loved it!! Sort of an offbeat spin off on the movie "Poltergeist" only instead of a haunted house its an evil demonic club. The chemistry between Patricia and Matt is so beautiful. They are such a wonderful married couple and he really loves her so much. Her kids are great! Punky Brewster and the kid from "Neverending story". And Susan Lucci as the evil Steaming Springs temptress who tempts then condemns the whole SoCal town they are in to the evil "club". Amazing! The movie really shows what happens when you drink the corporate Kool-Aid. I'm glad Pat realized she already had everything to make her happy. I really loved this movie! Bring back the 80s! I think it goes without saying the 80s had way better entertainment for sure.

Barret Oliver was a great actor. He chose to leave acting in his mid-teens. I respect his choice, and he doesn't have to justify it to anyone, but I think it's a shame we don't hear much about him any more. I know he practices photography, and specialises in unique 19th century techniques. Seems like he has a real talent for this. As long as he is happy I guess. And I get it why he wants to keep away from public scrutiny. We all have a right to privacy. But it would be so cool to hear him make the occasional public appearance or to make a few public comments every now and again. ❤

For a morality tale, this outing hits all the contemporary notes of upward-striving, success-oriented ruthlessness of our present civilization, and it provides an answer in the healing power of love, but the plot short-changes The Devil. If everyone, save Matthew, entered this miniature version of Hell (except -- a plot hole -- the little girl) utterly voluntarily, why would his rescue of his family destroy the entire operation? All those corporate strivers -- where are they? And the secretary, Grace -- is she still dead? I guess I'll have to rest content with the idea that the father of the family (a category which includes me) resisted the Call of Evil and conquered Hell with the power of love; that's upbeat enough.

I like the idea that whether or not to join a local health club is a decision that calls for a great deal of internal deliberation: "I'm just not sure it's right for me."

This is a good movie, it reminds me of the original 1975 Stepford Wives movie. Susan Lucci character was like the Devil.

I had one memory of this movie. I was 11 years old and just searched for it and found this video. Saw the exact scene I remembered from all those years ago.

Ya I was 6. I remember it coming on tv around the time school let out. 80s were so easier. People were different back then. Way different.
