Thankyou for this on sin eating. I remember reading a book a few years ago that it had originated with the Druids and was practiced later on by witches, herbalist, etc. The story I read had a living person going for help from one to take away her sin and punishment but in return she had to give the sin eater something important to her. Interesting stuff for sure

I'm always very skeptical when people claim things started with the Druids, since we have very few reliable sources from that period. I'm also not sure why witches would be practicing it.

I believe that your's is the most detailed and informative of all the others that I have encountered. I share your difficulty in researching the subject. Thank you.

It's funny how they've made the leap into popular culture though.

nice vid. Surprised you didn't mention Mary Webb's novel "Precious Bane". Living not too far from Ratlinghope, I imagine she was familiar with Munslow's story.

I haven't heard of it. I'll have to look it up. Thanks!

It would seem far more practical to have the sin infused food and beverage poured on to afire or buried in the ground.

Watching this after watching The Sin Eater episode on Rod Serling's "The Night Gallery". The only other films I'v seen about sin eaters was "The Last Sin Eater" 2007 and the TV movie with Lindsey Wagner, "The Incredible Journey of Doctor Meg Laurel" 1979. The only way to take away sins is to repent of our sins, and receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior. And if we sin again to repent and believe we receive forgiveness. Jesus bore our sins and the sin of Adam upon His own body on the cross. He paid the price so we wouldn't have to.
