This would be the single greatest improvement they could make to Invoke. It would immediately catapult it to the top of the SD tools list. Right now layers can only be achieved with the Krita plugin, and it's way clunkier to use than Invoke. Forge can create layers, but it can't work with them.

@@slowmotionradio6015 Indeed. A layer system and better brush control for both painting and masking will have a great effect on InvokeUI. Also, if possible a brush panel together with the layer panel, on the right, since the gallery is kind of useless and barely used anyway. But layers are by far the best addition for any graphic editor.

@@cristitanase6130 - speaking of layers, I feel like the "Merge Visible" icon in the unified canvas is a bit mysterious. Its name is kinda suggestive of layers, but I don't know what it does. Anyway, about the gallery... I didn't really get it to begin with, but I'm really appreciating it now as a convenient way to import previously generated stuff (both images and generation settings[*]) into adaptors, etc., to remix stuff. For me it's gone from not really using it, to killer feature. The more you have in the gallery, the more useful it gets as source material. * E.g., open an image from the gallery, hit 'i' to see its generation data, then use the "recall" arrows to send relevant stuff from that image to the one you're working on - it's often really useful, especially with adaptors and loras.

@@TimothyMusson I do appreciate there's a Gallery, but its utility is far less important than a Layer and Brush panel. The Merge Visible is indeed a strange command, maybe layers are developed? Anyway, the next steps must be a better tool panel, more tool options, layers, a transform tool together with select tool, and clearly more brushes. I wish them success, because right now InvokeUI is really in a very good spot but the competition does not wait and Krita already proves that stand-alone free graphic editors can deliver a decent AI intergration.

@@cristitanase6130 - to be clear, I agree :) I just wanted to keep the gallery up-voted as well. Invoke's UI has been awesome all along, so I hope the people who've been working on that stay involved. I reckon they've managed a really nice balance between utility/ease-of-use/preference-options/aesthetics so far
