Great shelter in the woods, Bushcraft solo overnight, building shelter

Hi all! Today I made a nice foil shelter. I spent the night in it. Despite the fact that it is winter outside, it was cozy and warm in the shelter thanks to the stove. Enjoy watching it!

The shrink wrap can easily be replaced by standard plastic sheeting. A big roll of 10 x 10 squares can be broken down into very small rolls tied off with paracord. Instant shelter and in extreme cold makes an insulating liner that will save your toes. Saves time and energy if you need to put it up quickly. Can be packed back up and reused if not badly torn. I keep a couple in my bag just in case, lighter and easier to carry then a tent.

I wouldn't advocate for using all that plastic (to a lesser extent the foil) on a temp shelter unless it is an emergency survival situation. In context of enjoying the great outdoors it seems like poor stewardship of the beauty around you...just as disrespectful of a choice as if you were throwing food wrappers on the ground . However I do wonder if plastic could be harvested from our oceans and used for insulation in regular home building? I am not some crazy batshit old woman finding fault and nothing else. Your building skills are great and you show a lot of ingenuity. Your video is also very well done! I hope you really enjoy your time outside. An alternative to saran wrap for this? Maybe some weatherproofing plastic. Yes still plastic but it would last longer and could potentially be dismantled when you are done with the shelter and use for something else.

The plastic is a great idea to cut the wind and insulate, but it can be heavy. Great for a quick build for a night or two out for practice. But ….still have to take it down and take it with you unless you plan on staying longer. Then leave no trace.

Bushcraft is a skillset. The bushcrafter does not have to go naked into the forest and try to survive. Doing this every week is an unrealistic fantasy. In my opinion, bushcraft skills make hiking more efficient and fun ... and don't forget, it's a PLEASURE!

If you were building a shelter for a bit of a stay, ya know I'm not mad at the huge role of plastic wrap and the aluminum foil. Guaranteed it was super warm. It's just a very "unique" setup. But you have to haul that stuff out there then I presume you brought it all home with you for disposal. Unless you really did just leave it out there...

@@rocknrobin4022 right? Spent 12+ hours building it, why not come back the next time you want some peace in the woods. I'm sure he isn't too far from home considering he brought an iron stove. I've used nails in the woods before to tack things together and I'd be lying if I said I've never lost one. You could probably get two seasons out of this and not have the hassle of setting up a tent or making a shelter everytime you go out.

@@salimagarcia eso es lo que le da pena. Hay muchos vídeos así y todos usan plásticos. Me parece una peña de ver que hacen cabañas en la natura pero que no esté nada natural. Deberían usar únicamente material del bosque.

I've worked on construction projects and it's amazing how much heat s simple sheet of plastic can hold in. It cuts the wind and holds the heat. I've been on jobs where it was below freezing outside and guys inside were working in flannel shirts and hoodies. All you need is some plastic and a good propane salamander or small stove. For smaller spaces you'd be surprised how much heat is given off by a Coleman lantern.
