+Darren Willett I so very much agree with you. I'm from the 60's era and it IS one of the best songs recorded in any era (and I've heard A LOT of music in my 55 years). The lyrics send such a powerful message and as one commenter said, it sends chills through out my body. The lyrics can apply to so many situations. Wouldn't change anything (no pun intended with the song in mind) except wish I was born 20yrs earlier to enjoy the 1960's while side stepping Viet Nam & the riots.

This reminds me of my wife before I met her, if that makes sense. A Melbourne street girl, she walked a fine line between dying of an overdose, dying from being murdered, dying in a house fire and dying by suicide during those years while I was waiting for her. You take people’s sayings under the gun that hurts you like nothing else, as they think that they know you; but they don’t. Some of the days in your life, there is a threat coming on to you, but you fight back with your shield to protect yourself. People in your life may come and go, and change their ways to attack you, but you put up a fight to keep yourself in believe and have the pride. It may bring you down, but you don’t let it last long as they would want it for you to inflict their pain. You say to yourself, “I’m not going to change myself; I can’t change myself for them.” There’s got to be a way for us to understand each other, in a different matter to where we all can get along. But in reality of these days, makes that hard and harder to believe and to make it happen. So don’t change yourself just because someone wants you to, because that is not who you are. Don’t change your train of thoughts, and give in to your enemies that you have to endure. Make yourself stand tall and be strong for who you are, because there are people in this crazy world wants you to be like them, and makes you feel the anger from them.
