best INXS show I've seen, nothing is like a band when they're still fresh raw hungry, as this performance well shows, this is the best time.........before they become commercialized, and jaded..........shabooh shoobah one of if not their best albums, and vinyl still rules
@drkatel6 жыл бұрын
MrUmlauterschweiger, YES they gained a LOT of new fans at their first US shows. Like me! ❤️ I saw them at the same time as this show, a couple weeks on either side is the closest I can peg down the date. My friends and I hadn't heard of them before and I assume no one else in the audience had either. (We said, "INKS? Who the fuck is INKS? Lol) They opened for Adam Ant. It must have been painful for Mr. Ant to have to follow Michael Hutchence every night and I'm pretty sure he came to regret that pairing! I bought Shabooh Shoobah the next day and wore the grooves off that album. Before or after, I've never been more wowed by a "new" band (new to me, the audience, the US). As an aside, Cheap Trick wins my 2nd place. I saw them open for Foreigner in 1978 and it was no contest. Cheap Trick blew Foreigner away almost as spectacularly as INXS blew away Adam Ant. Almost, but not quite.

I can’t think of a better front man since Hutch went. Combination of Mick Jagger and Jim Morrison: strutting, magnetic, magnificent. Shabooh Shoobah is my favourite INXS album. Not a duff song on it.

Michael Hutchence is like Michael Jackson, with elegance, grace, and poise, the way he effortlessly 'moves' 'glides' 'floats' from one place to another, people have said mike copied off mick jagger and jim Morrison, I think thats baloney, whether he did or not, still, each person does a move, etc. in their own way, and its uniquely them. Michael is totally enjoyable to me in the way he moves, sings, regardless of who else it may look like........but the greatest frontman, not for his singing, but for stage theatrics, etc. and more, is David Lee Roth :)

because INXS broke in the States before the UK, it's cool as a fan of their mid-era stuff to be discovering these gems. this is the band at their best in my opinion, such a high energy performance, and superior versions of the album tracks from Shabooh Shoobah. they went on to achieve excess success in the 90s but their music became fairly bland imo. this era showcases their writing talents and willingness to try any kind of music.
