I never normally comment on videos, however this SAVED my car. Super clear video, worked with my Kia Picanto 2010 - I found if you know what the cable feels like, you can open the fuse compartment and reach round to unclip and re-clip the wire without taking apart the car. Super helpful video!!

Brilliant! Sounds exactly the same as my 2003 Hyundai Terracan (probably the same part). In my case it has had this issue twice (crank, no start). Both times after being laid up in a damp corner of the yard for a few months. There was one point where the inside looked very damp indeed, so perfect conditions for encouraging contact corrosion. Each time it's been towed out in front of my workshop in the sun and a few days later started fine. It was only the other day I noticed the lack of immobiliser key symbol when it didn't start, and when symbol there, it starts perfectly. In light of this video will pull the coil, test and if O.K. refit after a dose of contact cleaner and a good wiggle! Thanks again 🙂

Thanks for the vid, followed instructions and worked like a charm! Did find it easier completely removing the cowling and trim surrounding the area, and it was only another couple of screws.

I had the same problem with Picanto 2009 with the connector which I cleaned and remade. Lasted another 4 years and the defect is back again so will clean it again.

What way did you fix the connection, I’ve replaced the new antenna coil from Kia, had a new key and still the same intermittent cranking and no key symbol. Cheers

@@dmc1221 I used contact cleaner sprayed into the connector. Look closely at the connector pins and see if they are corroded. I would also have considered using an inline splice to connect the wires and remove the connector but in my case it was not necessary.

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a similar problem but there’s no ecm light or ignition light at all! Just a crank no start, I’ve changed the ecu for a cloned one with still no luck and no mechanic is interested in solving it

That's more like the fault oxidized connection than the coil .. but strange how it's intermittent .. if oxidized switching ignition on and off wouldn't fix the oxidized connection .. thank you for posting .. hope you've solved the problem :)

Hi, Thanks for this video, didn't think about immobiliser. I was thinking more towards starter motor as the engine doesn't turn but clicks when turning the key. Kia have changed the battery and was OK for a few weeks but problem back again. Been back to Kia but they cant find anything wrong. They changed the fuel filter as well. So will try this. Thanks

Yea sounds like u might have a bad earth, and/or parasitic draw.

In my mom's Kia there is the same problem once the car light appears once not, some time ago I dried the antenna coil because it was damp and it was quiet for some time, I have to measure the resistance .

This happened to my Sportage so i soldered the two coil wires to each other and bypassed the connector its a lot easier on the Sportage

Have same thing with my Kia Ceed. Sometimes can't start for like 10 times. I let it sit for 2 hours and then it starts. 2 different mechanics scanned it for codes and nothing. Changed crank sensor, spark plugs and still same. The only thing is that I am not getting any light on my dash.. If it starts or not still no immobiliser light. Does that mean that I have a different problem or can it still be the same as in this video. Thanks.

Maybe still related to the immobiliser but I'm guessing probably something else. Probably best to see what's missing when it does not start - fuel or spark, if both missing then check to see if computer is 'alive' (check for 5v ref at one of the sensors), if yes check to see that the crank sensor signal is making back to the computer (and also that your other inputs are plausible). If computer not alive when it does not start check powers & grounds at the computer (and wiring etc) - if those all good then it could be the computer (ECU).

If there's immobilizer problem would the car shut-off while driving. My Rio have that issue. Offen while I'm driving it shuts off and I can't start it in about 10 crank times

That does not sound like an immobiliser issue issue to me, more likely to be a failing fuel pump relay or crank sensor etc.

You sir, saved me from 250€ today! I fixed my 2007 Picanto by cleaning the antenna connector like you did (I used a contact cleaner spray, in addition). Tip: For better access to the connector, I unscrewed the gray plastic under the steering wheel. It was a 3 screw piece.

Just undoing the connector and spraying wd40 and connecting and un-connecting usually does the trick.
