I bought Cardano at $0.37 Now it's $0.04 I'm so hopeless with this coin and don't even know how to feel since I have no idea when it will come back up. I asked myself everyday if I invested in the right coin or not. Also cryptocurrency is still not adopted by majority. Cash still dominates as the world's main monetary system. Not sure if cryptocurrency is just all fancy or what.

Whenever you back paper currency by gold, it's the gold that you're considering to be the money. Paper is simply used for tokenising the gold. Paper alone, couldn't have been money because you can print any amount of paper that you want to, according to your convenience, thus devaluing the paper reducing the purchasing power of people (which is why fiat money is a scam). In most cryptocurrencies, you put an upper cap on the number of coins through code, which is why you don't need to back it with gold. In centralised systems, with closed source code, you would need to back that up with gold, otherwise there's no reason why I should be trusting that.
