Miriam Hopkins is one of the most versatile and sadly underrated Actresses during the Golden Age of Hollywood and afterward. She has a long career in both the movies, radio, the Stage and television. Her last film was the late 1960's film with Marlon Brando and Redford, "The Chase". The Criterion Collection video of this film is excellent, including the extras. She received one nomination for Best Actress with her performance in the first Technicolor film ever made, "Becky Sharp". Her other movie roles are varied and include "The Richest Girl in the World" with Joel McCrae, "The World and the Flesh" with George Bancroft, and "The Old Maid" with Bette Davis. One of her best television roles was on "The Outer Limits" in an episode titled "Don't Open til Doomsday".

The film murders the book. Faulkner's Sanctuary is definitely not pulp fiction. '.....at sombre intervals the dead tranquil queens in stained marble mused and on into the sky lying prone and vanquished in the embrace of the season of rain and death.' You must read the novel to see what real potential the material has for a film.
