Thank you for watching today's Dragonlance Setting video. What do you think of Ionthas? Do you like the reshaping of the Fifth Age narrative that was in the War of Souls trilogy? Leave a comment below!

This is super helpful, I am creating a 5e Homebrew using Greek Primordials and actual dnd lore, with this I have a great reason for Chaos to be the BBEG in Toril.

The origin story makes him sound a lot like Morgoth.

I wouldn’t be surprised if lore was ‘borrowed’.

I like to refer to Chaos as the "The Father of All and Nothing" and make him a Primordial (A 4e D&D term for an elemental lord opposed to the Gods) . He is the embodiment of the plane of Elemental Chaos (another 4e invention) out of which the world of Krynn was created. The Primordial Father of All and Nothing seeks to introduce Chaos back into the world and dissolve Krynn back into the plane of Elemental Chaos. I emphasize his demiurge status as a material being from which the material world is formed as a counterpoint to the purely spiritual concerns of the High God to add a Gnostic layer to the Mormon theological influences on the setting.

Whoa, I believe you have thought about this more than I have, and that's a lot!

Wow - sounds awesome! I have a player interested in following him, would you have the materials or your materials for this idea? I’m not too familiar with 4e as a setting but like the concept a lot. All good if not! Figured it’d be worthwhile asking :)

Ionthas was actually a dynamic force needed to make Krynn interesting. In a way, he was needed to bring new life to Krynn. Without him, well.... Krynn would be populated only with Humans, Gnomes, Elves, Ogres and Dragons. Not much variety of life, when you think about it. A lot of good dwarven craft would be absent, it would be harder to get wealth from the deep sea, merchants wouldn't have to worry about Kender, and many wondrous creatures would not exist without him.

The age of mortals was a huge mistake, ruining what came before to justify changes in game mechnics was stupid, they destroyed the realms with that nonsense too.

It wasn’t for everyone that’s for sure. I think there’s similar feelings about Dragonlance in 5e
