I noticed The Shoikan Grove does not have it's own page in all this. Does it genuinely lack in lore that much? I imagine I as a portal comprised of negative, positive & neutral energy each in fact. 🤹

Thanks again for making this well made video. DMs shouldn't feel too overwhelmed in creating a session for a player to take the test. Steps to making a good test. 1. Read over the backstory the player made for ideas. 2. Jot down information through out the past sessions that will help make the test session. Like if a PC lost a friejd from a Hobgoblin. 3. Let the player's known spells guide the formation of the test. 4. Don't read too much about rules. If the PC doesn't have any friends to go travel with them to take the test, dont worry about it. 5. If the player survives their death saving throws, then they pass. Allow the player to drop their strength or Constitution ability score if need be to pass the test (saving throw ) or survive desth saving throws.

@@DLSaga Thanks. Ohh, and don't forget to pick out a solid Magical Artifact for them. Like if their Constitution score went down, they get a wand that improves their HP or something. The Staff of Magnus would be legendary.

Even though it is in the lore from earlier editions, the idea of the Test separating the low level wizards from the prestigious higher level wizards (or going off and becoming a rogue wizard!) fit very nicely with 3rd ed's prestige class system. It is one of the ideas I love about DL.

One way I like krynn better than other worlds is it's wizards .krynns wizards have an element of mystery , their power a bit of a scarcity . Take the forgotten realms where everyone's brothers sisters cousin is a mage and magic as abundant as a sword .my first wizard character was killed taking the test he had an int of 15 then I rolled a 17 int wizard who passed .

I like that no matter the alignment, all wizards when in the tower, fall back on their shared devotion to magic.

Dude, I've only listened to the first Dragonlance book on audible and really shouldnt go through all your videos. I learn too much! Its just something insanely Dragonlancy about your voice and demeanour that captures the playfull spirit of the books perfectly. And a seriousness and respect for the quality of the source material that also takes me back into the story. Well done

I aligned with Red Robes but easily understood why so many Red Robes eventually slid on the Black Robes later in their careers. It's even reoccurring "joke" in the novels. Black Robes got all the toys.

A Back Robe Mage is Lawful Evil, and is welcomed at my table (as a DM) any day. If they are with a bunch of adventures, then they are on a mission to take care of business. The faster it can get done the faster they can get back to their true love, Magic. If they have to cut corners and make a few people die horribly they will. Most adventures torture bad guys anyway or kill without a legal trial. Black Robes are fine.

Wow! I was just considering having my homebrew game players do a little world hopping and landing in Dragonlance. Was also thinking that our Warlock/Sorceror would probably be forced to take the test, so I'd have to design one. This just saved me a heck of a lot of research time in order to know what must be included in it, thanks!

The Warlock might be ok if they have a Titan or something giving them the ability to cast Magic. Warlock and Cleric are very close. During the Age of Might, Clerics got their spells from the gods. During the Age of Dispair, I could see the Mages of all three robes taking an interest with a Warlock. If the patron is a low level Diety, then they should be ok. If the three moons are not involved that will greatly help them keep a low profile. -- A sorcerer gets their powers from an innate ability. All Mages call upon an innate ability, however, they do lab work and stuff too. So a Sorcerer class would be targeted quickly by the Robes and put in line. The Black Robes would want to put this power to good use or destroy it.

I guess that the Wizards of Good wanted the test to help prevent innocents from dieing from renegade magic gone horribly wrong. I guess the Wizards of the Black Robes wanted the test to get rid of the weak, and to better keep an eye on the competition and even better yet, recruit a new person for their own benefit. I guess the Wizards of Red Robes went along with the need for the test once the White and Black decided it was a good thing. Or They came up with a compromise, because the White and Black disagreed.

I didn't get a notification of this video, I just so happened to notice it. How bout a LN Aurak who successfully gets away from the dragon army early in the war of the lance, and sincerely wants to join the red robes approaching them in disguise (of course the ones probing its mind will find out what it is, but has no Ulterior for joining the order)? In 3.5 gaining levels as a Wizard of High Sorcery grants +1 level of arcane spellcasting class per level so it could increase its sorcerer spell casting & spells known, with no need for taking the wizard class.

It all comes down to story. If the DM wants to allow it then why not? Personally in the War of the Lance I see the Draconians as monster only not playable characters. After is another question. The Order would reject them in my game as they derive their magic from Takhisis not Nuitari or any other moon.

@@DLSaga I definitely agree that they were "monsters" in the original trilogy but those books were focused on the heroes. Later books I believe showed that they were more than just "two dimensional" creatures and I believe a Black or Red Robe Wizard would be willing to sponsor one if they showed promise in the arcane arts (for some hidden personal gain of course). We'll see what direction WotC goes with the 5th Ed release later this year. My guess is there will be at least 1 or 2 NPC Draconians found within the Tower of High Sorcery. It will also be interesting to see how the Tower of High Sorcerery and the God's treat Sorcerers and Warlocks in 5th Ed DL as they didn't mechanically exist the same way when DL was created.
