I have a 6x24 by 56 IOR and I love it. I have been thinking about my next optic. I recently purchased an AI .338 Lapua with a SB 4x16 by 50. It's a nice optic, but I think the .338 Lapua deserves more magnification. Thank you for your review. I did watch another review of the 5.8x40 by Tibosaurus Rex, and after watching your review, I'm soooooold! Thank you so much for your articulate review!

Would not hesitate at all! If you don’t love this one, you have other issues. To each their own as opinions vary, but based on facts, this is the definitive hands down winner for long range tactical optic that there is. Your opinion is spot on sir! Bravo! Stay safe mates!😊👍🏻😷

Been agonising weather to change my 12-50 x 56 PM11, as ive always belived that the S&B scopes were the scope that all others were judged by, but having watch all the Utube skits, and the one that richard has done, ive now bought the 5.8 40 x 56 crusader, saw one at the shooting show last year and nearly bought it, but instead went for the PM11, which is a great scope ,but these have the edge, built like a tank, real mil spec, truly awsome, and could be the best scope ever made.

Richard do you have any plans on reviewing a Vortex razor gen 2 4.5-27x56 or 3-18x50 ? They have steel internals in the scope and seem to be very ruggedly built .

Nice scope , and here is me thinking my Hawke AirMax was expensive some serious bit of kit
@reneskytte72866 жыл бұрын
I have been using the Vortex razor 4,5-27 in practical rifle competitions for 2 years. After having shot a couple of thousand rounds I ended up returning the Vortex - then I shot another thousand round - and returned the second scope as well. In both instances I experienced that the Vortex simple don’t track well. This gave me recurring problems in zeroing the scope - which by the way is not easy on the Vortex as the tiny Allen screws needs to be tightened multiple times....I have been shooting competition for 30 years using Zeiss, Leupolds and Schmidt & Benders. I have never returned a scope before I bought the Vortex. I was intrigued by the sexy look of the Vortex, the excellent ret and in my mind the best designed turrets I could find. In practical use i have fould this scope to be significantly over-priced - it does not qualify as what you label an “Alfa-scope. Can I recommend that you stop using the overly-positive wording like “absolute world class”, “premium world-class”, “very very impressively” and so on - without having thoroughly tested this scope. Here is a challenge for you: Take the Vortex and put it next to the PMII 5-25 (that you don’t like). Now; try to click the turrets and adjust the light - try zeroing both scopes and now tell me; Do you honestly believe the Vortex is mechanically better than the S&B?.. Optically, I would take the S&B any day of the week... Vortex probably have the best customer service / warranty (their so called VIP) - unfortunately, you Will need this when you need to return your scope....

I'm glad you mentioned the air rifle boys . I know its fine for the pcp users but how will it hold up on a magnum springer with the heavy reverse recoil that breaks most scopes in only a few shots . Is this scope made to handle reverse recoil . If you're not sure would you find out and post a reply here .Its just about impossible to find a 12-52 x56 power range scope that holds its tracking and zero for very long on a magnum springer . Believe it or not not even the scopes rated for air gun springs are holding up to the newer magnum springers so we are consistently returning the scopes . I ask Rex to find out also so with both of you asking I might get a correct answer . For some reason scope company's want to lie and say they can handle the reverse recoil with out even testing for it . They think if will hold up on a 50 cal it will hold up on a spring air rifle . If they say that then they have no idea about reverse recoil guns . Rex in one of his video talked about a gun he has that produces a reverse recoil and that he had to use the SWFA SS fixed 10x scope because it was the only one that didn't break apart on the gun he had . So I need a scope built like the swfa but with the12- 50 power range .Do you think this company would tell you the truth about it being able to handle really bad Revere recoil ?

Hi Richard, Love your vids I'm in Sydney Australia and we had a distributor for about 5 minutes and our dollar is terrible. I found what looks like the last new 5.8-40 in Australia for $3695.00 I'm buying it due to yours and other reviews from people who have them, they love them also. So thank you for the in depth review! One major question i have is about the elevation turrets, I prefer the full wall turret on your I.O.R 3-18 with your custom turret wrap, will it fit on the 5.8-40 instead of the zero stop and second point of impact turret? Your the only person I know who's in the position to try it?

excellent review as always. best optics reviews in YTdom. Richard, any chance youll review the Primary Arms scopes? they have excellent Chinese produced 1-6x, 1-8x, 4-14x and now a 3-18x in both SFP and FFP models ranging from $289 to $499. they also have a premium Japanese produced platinum line with a superb $1299 1-8x FFP and a $1499 6-30x FFP scope. all have the incredible PA ACSS ranging/targeting reticle system which is absolutely the best in the industry. i own both 1-8x ACSS models, the standard SFP scope and the platinum FFP scope, as well as the 4-14x ACSS R-grid(discontinued) model and LOVE them all! id love to hear your take on one or all of them.

I know I'm late to the party, but I've finished putting together my first rifle for competition (used pre-made for the longest time privately and not much choice in the military). I've found a shop who does installment payment in the US, so I pulled the trigger and should be coming soon. What scope cap size and eyepiece do you have on your Crusader? Currently hunting down accessories and that's one of the last ones I'm missing.

Nice review. I would however add that if your shooting in conditions where you need to use an illuminated reticle, then you probably wouldn't see a bullet splash, so in these circumstances, the use of a fully illuminated reticle would be limited.

+PHILLIP TAYLOR Too vague, Phillip. How much money? What mag range? What weight will you tolerate? There is no "best" - it's all a careful balancing act. I'll tell you this for free, optically the NSX isn't anywhere near the top, despie some other fine attributes, so you can make progress, for sure.

if you have the zero stop set, how are you supposed to see the index line to know where to stop when you adjust your elevation turret? sure if you have a several mils of adjustment it will expose itself and there's no issue but what if you only need a few clicks for short range applications?
@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK7 жыл бұрын
You're right. You cannot see the line when you're at zero stop. BUT you can simple set the zero to be bottomed out on the saddle - yes you can't see the actual line but you can't turn any lower physically.

I own IOR's and I can tell you these are amazing optics. They are built like a tank and have the clearest, distortion free SCHOTT GLASSWERKE glass I have ever looked through, That manufactured to IOR specifications. Even at full magnification! The tracking system was tested and rated as the most accurate tracking system of ANY optic by the US military! I can own any optic but I own and choose these. I use products that work 100% of the time. My hope is that the day will come the an American company will build optics like this, because I know we can and if we did, I can guarantee you that an American company would win every military contract. Don't be fooled some Government contracts are preset. Trust me. Val (Valdada) at IOR is a great guy and at times will be the one answering the phone. Based in Texas you can visit the facility, very cool. I'm telling you if you are forking out a couple grand or more and want a tear One optic, jump on these. They love the military at IOR and will help with pricing. Personally, I feel these are better than SB, NF, USop... I hope this helps.

Personal opinions in regards to rifle scope optics should be taken as such. As a "Opinion".... Personal preference plays a majority role in this niche market of "high end optics"... IOR, S&B, Nightforce, Leupold, ect.... Visually compare (eye to glass) before you make your decision.

@RichardUttingSharpshootingUK8 жыл бұрын
The recon is a x50 not x56 and is much more compact. The glass is the same but the crusader does pip it as it has that 56 which just stabilises the eye box a little at higher mag
