Even better, most companies try very innovative ways to still generate and link data together. Settings like these do have some effect but certainly are not the whole picture. There is mechanisms like lookalikes, re-targeting, matching anonymous audiences with known audiences based on hashed personalized data .. and the list goes on. Companies do not respect your privacy and the law is not able to keep up with the innovative ways to workaround existing laws. Apple is no hero in shining armor here just because like facebook they try to create app campaigns that give you the illusion you have any control over your privacy and data. (If your country even has anything like proper data privacy laws in place)

Appreciate these tips. One bit of feedback: In the section about personalized ads, there is some misinformation. Opting out of personalized ads will not result in the ad platform skipping sending you an ad. You are correct that highly targeted campaigns will not bid on your impression, but there are always lower valued ads with looser targeting parameters. The ad platform will just send you a lower value, less targeted campaign. Source: 10 years digital ad platform experience

The moving-view perspective in map navigators is one of the most useful things as you actually know which direction you are looking towards when looking on the map. To keep this feature working, you actually need to leave enabled the *Compass Calibration* in the *Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services* to be able to keep your moving view perspective in map navigators. I also keep enabled the *Motion calibration & Distance* even though it looks to be working without it too

@@dianeclifford6809 I heard through the grapevine (in an Apple store from a customer service rep) that Apple will be going smaller again. I can not stand big! My hands are too small to handle the large phones. And some of the pockets on my clothing and in my handbags are too small to fit those clunking monsters. The largest I've gone so far is an iPhone 8. If Apple doesn't offer a new phone that's small, my next phone will be an SE

wow. WOW. I never go to tech sites or solves - ever. But my new iphone 12 mini won't connect via bluetooth so I was on a personal mission after spending hours on the phone with Apple chat and calls - which didn't fix it. While you weren't about this issue, I came across your channel during my hunt and am SO glad I did. What a user friendly explanation of many practical things about my phone that I could actually do myself with your instruction. I'm a permanent subscriber now. Thanks.

I did see the point of some of this and think saving some battery power is important. As a software engineer/DBA, improving performance of things makes me happy. When it comes to ads, though, I’d rather see ads that do match my interests than not. I get some privacy concerns are involved if the advertising data is identifiable, but knowing I’m a cyclist and prefer certain brands is hardly going to steal my identity.

It's invasive and weird and I don't care if it helps a brand attempt to sell me something they think is more relevant to me because I'm conscious of how they were able to figure that out.

For significant locations, there’s wording that says that turning it off will affect many Apple apps, maps, do not disturb when driving, CarPlay, Siri, calendar and photos. You didn’t mention this and was wondering if turning this off will have an adverse effect on these. Thank you.

I followed your last video and with turning off system customisation and significant locations, I lost my optimised battery charging? It no longer worked. Took me nearly 2 weeks to reset it and get it working again. If it’s off, how is it going to know if you are home every night and charging at the same place for it to work and learn the pattern?

5:39 - Just a heads up, I believe the amount of ads won't change by turning off the personalized ad function! I say that because there are a lot of big companies out there that will pay for ad space against essentially any audience (i.e. they're targeting anyone with a pulse); the ad inventory will always be filled. Turning off that setting just means ads overall will be less relevant :)
@PayetteForward3 жыл бұрын
We hear you, Devin! Depending on the ad network, 100% fill rate isn't a guarantee. On our websites we set a CPM floor and run house ads (just things that say, "Hey, check out our KZbin channel" and stuff like that) instead of accepting pathetically low CPMs from advertisers who run low-quality ads. I understand the argument but I still haven't heard anyone say, "I turned this off and now the ads I see just aren't as high quality as they used to be." I agree that you're correct in principle - I'd just like some real world experiential data to back it up.

Back up over cellular and similar settings are GREAT. I wish Apple would also allow iOS upgrades over cellular. Why? Here in Finland, and many other countries, most cellular data plans are unlimited. Just because data plans in the U.S. are not great doesn't mean, that iOS shouldn't consider the rest of the world.
