I don't understand why they put a more powerful M5 chip in a tablet that doesn't have as many features as a MacBook.

My best theory, apple uses iPads specifically pros to test mac chips for Macbook Air and Pros later on to see how much power and efficiency they can pack in a tiny chip, also how small they can pack a chip

Also apple doesn’t wanna make you buy a 2 in one package like what other brands, it simply doesn’t make sense to them. Why let you buy an iPad pro to replace your Macbook or Windows laptop when they can give you a tough choice, portability or workflow. TLDR having mac on iPad removes the need for macbooks

My guess is that Apple and tsmc wants to hit certain number of chip production. Good old economy of scale drives down production cost for TSMC and procurement costs for Apple.
