@wrednuch19 күн бұрын
There is a back button, but only when you're leaving app A to do something in app B. Then a system back button appears in top left corner. So small you need to attempt 5 times in sniper mode until you manage to hit it and go back to app A. Tidy, but annoying. From system design perspective a static back button often doesn't have a scenario to resolve to and as such is difficult to interpret where the user wanted to go back to, which is why iOS only offers the back button in a single scenario.

Back button - requires the developer of the app to provide one. If I create an app and don't include a way for the user to navigate back out of a screen then they're screwed. I think the whole idea of not having a proper back button is insane. But it's a bit like the calculator app they refused to change - Apple can be pig-headed about stuff and refuse to do it, even though it is completely capable of being easily done and would help the user greatly.
@williamnewsome51696 күн бұрын
I too find it utterly incomprehensible that Apple did not include a back button. In researching topic the other day, I ran across an article in which Steve Jobs originally wanted a back button. One of his designers talked him out of it. Definitely taking form over function. Have tried to like IOS, but every time I do, all is lost when I use my old trusted Galaxy. Everything you have said were serious pain points for me. I'd add a few smaller things: voice dictation on iOS was absolutely horrendous; Siri isn't that helpful ("here's what I found on the web" Bruh, just TELL me!); and one thing that even my wife who decided to go back to Apple seriously misses and I use all the time is scheduling text messages. Apple has done a great job at marketing and I get annoyed with people who blindly say "Apple is just so much easier to use, more intuitive, etc." while never having used a flagship Android device... See, Android users aren't iPhone haters, we know that iPhone is very good phone, but we hate when some isheep is saying that iPhone is better than iPhone's killer which is Samsung. How that dated peace of tech from 2012. can be better when it have not some basic and standardised things developed under the hood such as easy acess to anything, clipboard, moving icons and organizing the UI, custumisations for making your UI experience to fit your needs in the way you like or make a device to work in the way you want? For us, iOS is just a real pain cuz it's not developed enough. You know itself that iPhone is just for younger people who's addicted to social consumption, they can record videos with good stabilisation, make good selfies and waste a lot of time on a very polished and optimised social apps, but when it comes to productivity and working with documents, that phone is a real nightmare thanks to undeveloped and limited iOS functionalities and abilities. This is a field where AOS is far way in front of iOS. With Android phone, you don't need another tech devices such as laptop, watch etc. cuz philosophy ground of making AOS is to make one device for all. This means that your phone as a smart device is enough for everything, and that's a reason why AOS is an open source project based on Linux which is constantly under developing, and every single year the thing are just getting better and better. Do you getting this things now? Android is one device for all needs you have, while Apple's business philosophy is a few various devices for all your needs which means that you have to spend way more money and get MacBook, iWatch etc. to experience what smart device really means. I tried to switch twice, but no way, that iOS is still very undeveloped which is a big dissapointment cuz iPhone device is also expensive and buyers expect way more functionalities of device for that amonut of money. With Android, you just can do everything, you can work with documents, enjoy in gaming, enjoy in media consumption, you have file menager, all connectivity features, you can connect your phone to any smart device, you can make a good photos and videos, you can keep all your documents in electronic form, carry them with you and share it whenever you want and in the way you want, you can use your phone as an projector etc. etc. This is a true mature and definition of open code, a real freedom of AOS users can experience and enjoy, and this is a reason why AOS is covering around 82% of global IT market, it's got standardised worldwide. Apple's iOS ecosys is taking around 18% according to stats from 2022/23 and around 12% are inside the US borders, while other 6% are spread in the rest of the world. Google and Samsung are just leading in all of these things, and I don't even talk about Samsung premium models and why these phones are too good. I'm usualy saying that iPhone can compete with Samsung, but people just don't understand. I sold my desktop PC and have no tablet cuz I don't need it anymore. My phone as one device is enough for all my needs cuz I don't work some of the jobs on a PC, I'm not a graphic designer, programmer, AFX or VFX maker etc., so I don't need laptop, tablet or a PC in my home anymore. Greetings. 😊

Have been using both more than 13 years (switching time to time back and forth form iPhone to Android) Agree, it's a matter of habit But, with iPhone you get used to what Apple need With Android - what you need Some features much more convenient in iPhone (Face ID, Screen Wake Up, Air Drop etc.), but others (and there more of them) stuck in 2008 without any reasonable explanation. Every time when i switching to iPhone i feel convenience and tightness simultaneously - yep it simple, smooth, reliable, but: Simple drawbacks of iPhone - no categorized notifications? I have 4 Google accounts (business / personal) and my iPhone notifications looks like they are created by drunk Ben - no keyboard typing learning/numbers row? I use my iPhone almost 3 year and every time manually type my email, name, address etc. - no split screen? I use this function on Android every time - no unified swipe back? Conceptual drawbacks on iPhone - multitasking. My man this is 2023 year and when i downloading maps (in Google maps app) and switching to another app - all ceasing - full-fledged file system. I can't freely download, store and access on my iPhone work files, music, PDF etc. - communication. If you have no MacBook you have no connectivity options. Galaxy with Dex and USB-C cable is a second personal PC. - conservativity. 2023, 800$ no 120 Hz, no UCB-C (ok - thanks to EU legislation Apple added slow port )) are you kidding? - accessibility. The question is that Android 300$ phone offer and can do more, than 800$ iPhone Yep, Android too has bunch of disadvantages, but they are compensating with convenience, flexibility and accessibility.

Android is more customizable. The tough part is finding everything in menus and submenus. If you’re not technically inclined it’s challenging, where the iPhone simplifies things. Switching recently from Android to iPhone was a terrible experience for me. I had not used an iPhone since the 5s model 10 years ago. When I got a my new iPhone, I felt like I had traveled back in time. Nothing had changed much. The icons were the same as before, the keyboard was awful compared to Android, and there were many useless or expensive apple apps that I did not want, such as Apple news, iTunes, Notepad, and Fitness. The apps that were supposed to be useful, like Health, were too complicated and inferior to Samsung Health. I deleted them all. Forget to mention Samsung Internet explorer way better than Safari and the difficulty I have to go quick to an application which is already opened in the phone memory.

Speaking of convenience and usefulness Samsung really screw up by removing IR blaster. I used a Xiaomi phone and is so easy controlling all the house devices with the device i already have in my and instead of looking behind couch pillows for a remote. Also many features Samsung is now bringing to their phones i had on my Xiaomi device years before. Like Dual Apps for example. I also have second space where it turns the phone basically into a new device by hiding everything you have on the phone and creating another profile. Is like having two devices into one. There are other things i like that when i had Samsung it wasn't there but don't know if they now added them. Like sliding 3 fingers for a screenshot, double tap to wake up phone, quick ball for some extra shortcuts of most used apps assigning buttons to do different things like double clicking my power button to open the camera or an app or switching of my screen by pressing the home button for a second etc. There are plenty of small things like that. that some years back Samsung didn't have while my Xiaomi phone had.

This is a feast of recognition. I'm in the same boat, long term android user but switched to the Iphone 13 pro max two years ago. I recognize all the annoyances you mention and can add a couple more. For instance, I'm a text swyper, I just love typing by swipe gestures. The Iphone keyboard has it, but it's just so very not the same. After two years the Iphone keyboard still doesn't know my own name; on an android phone Gboard remembers my name after using it two times. Same goes for the first name of my wife, who has a slightly uncommon name: even after two years the Iphone does not suggest her name when I try to swype it. Talking about Gboard: you can install it on an Iphone, but using it is stressful. The user experience is by far not comparable with Gboard on an android phone; Iphone keeps switching back to it's own keyboard and I can't find out why, and when filling out forms online you can forget about Gboard completely, the phone will not allow to switch to anything else but the default keyboard. The fact that you have to leave the app you're in, go back to the home screen to go into settings for every little settings adjustment you want to make, so annoying. The list goes on and on. Never again.

Every phone or OS has features, someone may not like or would like them to work differently. What you and this guy are talking about are niche features that 90% of users would not miss or need! The 2 really good points he makes here, is actually the keyboard, it is a main juggling between the letters and numbers, however it's in no way a deal breaker, the one that annoys me the most, is the inability to pause video recordings. Everything else mentioned here is just spin and or muscle memory. In your case though, if you haven't noticed the real advantages of the iPhone in 2 years, I would definitely recommend you go back to Android!
@gerard817411 ай бұрын
@@jackdominiak445 I think those advantages are mainly there for people in the ecosystem, using also a macbook, and ipods, and an apple watch etc. I'm not in, and won't be either for various reasons. I don't want to sound sour but it turns out I miss too many Android features, and am too annoyed by a couple of Iphone peculiarities, to switch permanently so yeah, I'm going back to Android. By the way, one of my main gripes, a properly working swiping functionality on a keyboard is nothing niche, it's been there for years and even the first versions on Android, like 10 years ago or more, were way better than today's Iphone's effort.

Just take a look a screen quality or a CPU power for example or compare the cams, or research about lightening fast UFS memory, infrasonic fingerprint sensor etc. I'm not iPhone hater, I'm aware that is very good phone, but still it's not better than Samsung, not yet. You just can't live without some basic features you need everyday by using iPhone device, while Samsung is simply dominating in that. Maybe I'll buy iPhone in some distant future, but definately not yet becsuse Samsung is better for my personal needs. The company I work for gave me an iPhone 13 Pro Max 2 years ago after 10 years of Android. Why, even now, isn't there a finger print reader? Why is it so heavy? My wife's Samsung Galaxy phone is half the weight. Why, if you are on lock screen, can't you reject a scam caller? All you can do it mute it with the home button. The camera constantly defaults to 4:3 ratio and you need to find an obscure setting to make it remember the last settings you did for the camera. Then it reverts back every time it updates. If you use Google Maps on Car play in your car the voice commands don't work. They only work on Apple maps.
@frogs94685 ай бұрын
They did away with the home button after the iPhone 8. The iPhone X (10) is when swiping up became more of a thing. The stainless steel material made the phones heavier.

I've been using Galaxy phones for 10 years now and generally love them. But I'm now thinking of switching to iPhone solely because I've been frustrated with the lack of viable options for high quality video recordings on Samsung phones. Apple now has great options in this regard, including Prores and log. You can do high bitrate recording and things similar to log on Samsung phones using third party apps like Filmic, but Samsung limits access to the API so these third party apps can only do up to 30 fps. Also, I've had problems with focus on third party apps (not being able to focus at further distances). So overall the third party apps are not great solutions, and I think iPhones are therefore much better for serious video work. But I don't really know how good video has become in the native app on the S23U, recording in HDR10 for example. What are your thoughts on this?
@PSYCHOV3N0M10 ай бұрын
@@joshnlevinsonMany flagship Android phones have high bit rate recording. Sony Xperia 1 does over 150Mbps Bit Rate. Samsung does around 144Mbps Bit Rate. OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 10 Pro, ZTE Axon 40 Ultra, ZTE Axon 50 Ultra, Sony Xperia 1 IV, Sony Xperia 1 V can all do 4K 120fps video recording.

Recently switched to the iPhone 15 Pro Max after having Android phones for the last 12 years (most recently the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra). I definitely agree with all of your criticisms and there are a lot of ease of use features that I miss from Android. That said, I've learned to get by pretty well without them and have gotten more and more used to iOS each day and am getting to the point where I do like it, mostly for the ecosystem and connectivity with friends that it provides since I was basically the only of my friends with an Android still. I also do like that a lot of apps are a bit more stable on iOS than on Android and some (i.e. Instagram, Snapchat, ESPN) work significantly better on iOS. A part of me still misses Android and in many ways I do feel like Android still has an upper hand on iOS, but at the end of the day, I do believe that both are really great at this point in time and it's hard to really be upset with whichever choice you go with.

The lack of multitasking, and I'm not talking about multiple apps on one screen, though that is quite nifty. No, I'm talking about things working in the background - I'm talking about selecting 10 items to send in a messenger and being forced to stay in that app and chat until the files are uploaded - otherwise the app just gets suspended and stops uploading. Same with processing, rendering, downloading, updating etc. It has to be on the main screen and you have to wait for it to finish. Install a game and then the game says "Oh I need to download 4 more gigs of data" Guess who won't be using their iphone in the next 30 minutes while that's being downloaded on-screen.

That's something I've noticed, always thought people like the iPhone because its simpler and more intuitive to use but whenever i try to interact with an iPhone im left feeling like a boomer. I really couldn't explain it to iPhone users, like they would ask me why i don't use them and i settled on "idk I'm used to android" but really it is just about usability at this point. Android is easier to use. Which is kinda crazy because again, i always thought of android as the more complicated, "power user" platform, but really android is also better for casual users too. It's just better, no matter what manufacturer skin you use. And it lets you use it for more things. You can essentially turn your android into a PC if you want, just full functionality, full file access, you can literally do anything without locks involved. And best of all is again, just usability. I can set up my phone in any way i find convenient for me. Shocking that iOS got the "put icons anywhere" feature only recently. That's just an absurd limitation to put on users.
