At the end of the day, use what works best with your workflow and priorities. I see people on degoogling/privacy subreddits and here on KZbin that say “you’re not doing it right if you aren’t using Arch Linux, Arkenfox and a pixel running GrapheneOS!” This strict attitude and dismissal of those who are stepping into the world of privacy/degoogling is hurtful and anti-productive towards the actual goal of privacy.

What I can't give up on Android: • Browser engines (Firefox + uBlock origin) • File managers that really deserve their name. You can't even show hidden files or name an SMB share under iOS. • Syncthing • Keyboard (soo bad on iOS) • 3rd party app stores • possibility to install self developed apps easily • KDE Connect (limited on iOS) • Auto clickers • GPS spoofing through developer options • Functional but less beauty Widgets • Gesture control (back gesture) • Fingerprint readers (although it's not a software feature it is only available on android phones) • Launcher and OS freedom + customizable • I control my device and not the other way round.

Not every model is going to be supported for long (but some like Fairphone already have a longer support time than iphone). Android is more of a mixed bag, the best setups are better than iOs, but many are worse.

Can't do that on an iPhone, heh ? Also while iOS is definitely better for privacy than normal Android, you shouldn't blindly trust Apple when it comes to privacy. They're very good at marketing, but definitely had some big controversies in the past. Also, even without using LineageOS, you can completely remove Google services from your phone if you so desire. Not sure you can do that on Apple devices ? Genuinely curious here. We can also do stuff like completely block internet access to an application, or completely block it from running in the background, which is pretty dope when it comes down to it.

@@Blueeeeeee I’ve never met a single person who runs an edge case operating system on their android device… so really. We need to compare traditional android vs iOS. As that’s what the overwhelming majority of people use. I’ve been on both. The consumer benefits of the Apple ecosystem are nothing short of phenomenal. The user experience is far far better - especially between devices. The warranty process by Apple Store is 10000x ahead of the other options. Of course they will be collecting their own data, but we have moved on from 15 years ago. There’s very little you can’t do on an iPhone these days. Unless you’re talking very edge case specific tasks. Apple have been known to push many significant security protocols and updates that have subsequently broken compatibility with old protocols- yet forced change for good…. I’m not sure people “blindly trust Apple”, but Apple was always critiqued by android users for having a “locked down system”. Which has ironically played in their favor leading them to the overwhelming domination of commercial hardware and software deployment throughout businesses, airlines, schools etc as their software has always been regarded as the most mainstream - secure and accessible and supported … I could grind away and isolate myself to the 0.1% and operate obscure operating systems, encounter app compatibility issues. I could alienate myself from the tremendous benefits of family and friends being on the same ecosystem. I and the majority of big corporations probably trust Apple with data more than I trust the other brands if I’m to be honest. Again. Sure you can avoid mainstream OS’s but I’m not up to anything shady I’m willing to accept that there is a data transfer. You can lock down most things pretty dramatically - as I’ve already done. If you’re a purest and want absolutely zero data transfer, then sure, do what you have done. But…. Data is a 2 way street. There is a lot of benefit associated with using a mainstream device. The question is - which is the lesser of 2 evils. And alienating yourself to a less compatible, less updated, less supported operating system is like running Linux on a pc because you refuse to use Microsoft Windows isn’t my jam.

What's important IMO is that Android did a massive step forward with security and privacy in the recent years and keeps pushing that back to older phones. The system is almost annoying at limiting permissions and battery time to any apps, including ability to let apps access e.g. only user-selected files instead of whole gallery, etc.. The level of configuration you get, same as for notifications, is mind blowing. Not to mention you have choice to use e.g. finger print reader unlike ios, where it's only face-reader cause apple says so.

I have picked Android for the amount of control you get with it I do wish there were other options though as even android can be somewhat limiting. For example a lot of apps lose functionality the second you rood the device like having root control all the sudden makes it less secure. What it really means is that you as the user have the control and can grant control to other applications as desired where as on an unrooted device google is the one with the control and apps like banking trust google a lot more than they trust the user. Unfortunately they can be right but personally I would still prefer to have that control myself. I will say that if you are not willing to take the time to harden android you are probably better off with ios as google tries to spy on you as much as possible by default.
