***Corrections & Updates*** - In the coming months IotaVX will offer an update that users can perform at home to disable the auto-off feature if that's not your cup of tea. - I mistakenly referred to the Denon PMA-600 as the 400 and as a viewer pointed out it does indeed have sub-out so it's back on the list. - I said the remote control allows you to change between all 5 outputs, obviously i meant inputs. -While i never said this in the video i chose to review the integrated amp without the companion power amp because i wanted to review it in it's most affordable form. -I'll add more corrections if i notice anything else.

I pulled the trigger on the SA3/PA3 combo and have never looked back. One of the smartest decisions I have ever made in my pursuit of great sound at prices I can afford. I did the SA3 first, then after deciding on some new speakers (87DB @8ohms, close out special from GR Research) I snagged the PA3. Speaker cables from Blue Jean Cables, and the Audiolab 6000CDT. The SA3 has a great DAC which saves on some money, AND contributes to great audio. I also recommend the Bluetooth Dongle. It opens up music/movies on the internet. Ian, at IOTA is a straight up solid dude who cares about his customers. My units arrived in 3 days from the UK, packaged more adequately than necessary, which shows great care. I have reached the end of my pursuit. You can add a subwoofer if you need it, but for me, I'm still toying with that idea. Dude, if I was near you, I would let you hear my rig. Good luck!!

@@NemoPropaganda I purchased a RSL Speedwoofer 10s. It is still being shipped, but I wanted to prepare for the setup. It has a full crossover in its circuitry, as well as an LFE bypass input, and phase control.
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 4 жыл бұрын
@@tycheesey i would start with the phase set to 180, volume set to 1/3rd, and freq set to 60hz. That's usually where i start and fine tune from their. Phase is something you want to get right first! Easiest way is to test 0 or 180 and go back to the listening position, one will have better integration and more of a bass kick, that should be the correct phase and it's good to make sure there is no cancellation, if you have cancellation try the opposite phase. After that adjust the gain (volume) to your liking and then lastly adjust the freq to where it blends the best. Starting around the -3db point of your speakers is a good place to start.

The Emotiva has a bigger capacitor. Would that mean it can cover a bigger dynamic in the music?
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 4 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. It is common knowledge that more capacitance can help with dynamics in the bass region and provide more power to be readily available but with all designs the overall circuitry, output stage, and power transformer all play a role as well. For example my kinki studio monobloc amplifiers don't have much capacitance but they have huge transformers and a very powerful output stage so it's of little to no consequence and as a result these amplifiers have huge dynamic capability. In my experience both the Emotiva and IotaVX are excellent amplifiers and I suggest people choose the one that is most in their budget.

@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 4 жыл бұрын
The Emotiva TA-100 paired with their A300 is a similar combination that is a little bit cheaper, offers more power for the money, with a slightly different tonal character. The IotaVX has nicer vocals and a little more refinement in the top end but considering the Emotiva setup is cheaper this really is a situation where you get what you pay for, the Emotiva setup is worth every dollar at its price. And the iota setup is worth every dollar at its price also. Besides that nothing else comes to mind. The iota piece is considered about as good as you can do for the money. And I think the emotiva piece is also about as good as you can do for its slightly lower price.

If $500 is your budget there is no better class a/b amp. At 85db you may need to dig into the volume knob a lot but it should deliver and if you like very loud music you can add the companion power amp to double it’s power :). The only other option with honest power is the emotiva ta-100 but this sounds a bit better.

I'm currently using the Bluetooth toggle that attaches to the extension port (purchased from their website). I use this for streaming Spotify etc... However, I've been thinking of upgrading to a 'Bluesound node 2i'. I was hoping to get your thoughts on whether this would be a worth while upgrade (sound quality wise)? I see you've done a review on the Sound Node so I guess you're pretty familiar with the device! Cheers!
@NemoPropaganda
@NemoPropaganda 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Kelly, so the main difference between bluetooth and a dedicated streamer is bitrate. Spotify is 90-160kbps, Spotify premium is 320kbps and that's fine for bluetooth as the most common SBC Codec can handle up to 342kbps. With streaming we're trying to hit lossless which is 1411kbps so you'll have to use something like Tidal HiFi which costs $19.99/month to actually see the benefit. The biggest difference is the bass region and overall dynamics. If your speakers are good with bass you will notice increased and more articulate bass. Midrange focus is better and the topend will be more refined also. It's one of those upgrades that did not impress me initially until I went back to bluetooth a few months later and felt while still good BT sounded flat in comparison and bass was definitely lacking in quantity and texture. Also consider IotaVX will be releasing their own streamer soon so if you want a matching stack it might be worth the wait. Ultimately yes I absolutely recommend the bluesound node 2i, I love mine and still use it every day :)
@AKelly-wd4lj
@AKelly-wd4lj 3 жыл бұрын
@@NemoPropaganda thanks for such a rapid response! I didn't realise iota are releasing a streamer! It might be worth waiting to see what people say about it, however, what entices me about the Sound Node is the software. Some of these companies seem to forget about their users once they've bought the product. But with the Blue Sound Node it seems they are pretty focused on keeping their product up to date. Cheers!

That being said, Ian the owner of the company, is the one that answered the phone both times I called and he is very polite and gave me an unsolicited back history of his company! He is very passionate about audio and it shows with their products. Adding the second amp makes a great product even better and I highly recommend the addition!

Hey man. It might not be no damn Maybach, but I smoke people in my V6 Camry! So don't be talking smack, okay? 😡 Just messing with you man. 😁 Great review. As usual. It's amazing the deals that are out there nowadays. This is quite a unit for $500. Things have really changed a lot over the past few years. You were asking about other integrated amps. And looking at Crutchfield to confirm the sub out thing. I was surprised to see many amps I wanted to mention, did not have one. But what about the Cambridge Audio AXA35? It's got stereo preouts. And the Yamaha A-S301 has a sub out. I assume the A-S501 does too. Not sure if that's getting too expensive, or not though. Also another choice is the Music Hall 15.3. It gets good reviews, and has preouts. Of course at this price. Receivers are good options too. Cambridge Audio AXR100 for instance. Got a pretty rave review from Zero Fidelity. In fact he said in some ways it was better then their $1200 integrated (it's rated to put out more power too!). And he directly compared it to the IOTAVX himself. Like I said. There's a lot of deals out there nowadays! 😉 ✌️

Nemo Propaganda Reviews Well if you're willing to try the Denon without the sub out. Then don't forget the Marantz 5005, or the NAD C316BEE V2. Especially the NAD. The Marantz supposedly has a V curve going on, and that may, or may not work depending on your tastes/speakers. But the NAD was Steve Guttenberg's favorite budget amp for years. And one I would love to hear. I forget the type of sound it puts out, but assuming Steve has good ears. It's worth checking out I'm sure. And yes. I was joking, but not about the smoking people part. I love driving my car. I got it from a family friend. And bought it because it was a good deal. I really didn't want the V6, because I was worried about the gas mileage. But then I drove it, was quite surprised at how fast it was. When I looked up the HP/torque numbers I realized why. What's really amazing is the actual gas mileage. If you take it easy. It's better then some 4 cyl cars I've owned. And it's very comfortable. Plenty of options and everything too. They're great cars IMHO. I'll probably look for another one after this goes. ✌️

@@amb3cog Yeah that is odd, maybe that's why i thought the 600 didn't have a sub-out. Anywho, I've always wanted to checkout the 316BEE but I think I'd rather check out the 600NE, i'll give it some thought before i pull the trigger on anything.

@@NemoPropaganda If it matters. Sean at Zero Fidelity is always saying that Denon has a warm, and muscular sound. I've been very tempted by the pma-1600 myself. It's like an old school amp. It has two transformers (El type), and looks like a real dual mono design. It also doubles down into 4 ohms. So high current amp too presumably. It looks serious to me. I have Buchardt S300's though. And I'm a little worried it will be too warm of a sound for my tastes. But it's got tone controls. Either way. I agree that the Denon amps look interesting. I say go for it. Soon as they are available that is. There's not one anywhere right now. Which is kind of crazy really. But Crutchfield says they'll be back in 9/4/20. So hopefully they're not discontinued. And there's just a delay do to Covid. I know Steve Guttenberg just said that none of these companies are doing customer service right now because of it. So that's probably the case. Good luck. ✌️

IOTAVX product might be of good quality, but their customer service leaves much to be desired. If you encounter an issue, wish to file a warranty claim, or need to return their product, you may find that they do not respond to your emails or calls.
