Thanks for the update Jake. Whats crazy to me is i read comments and watch videos of people talking about too many cameras on public land. I hunt mostly private but i do also hunt a 750 acre public tract here in illinois in the golden triangle and i very rarely ever run into a camera.
@justinjhauser51103 ай бұрын
I agree. I hear people make that argument all the time. I have never been to a piece of public land where cameras are "everywhere". Not even remotely close to anything like this "surveillance" narrative the people like to use.

I’m in Ohio so don’t have that issue but I love cell cams and so do my kids ! They love seeing deer on camera of course but the turkey or a bobcat is just as exciting to them! With our family being so busy with kids sports and school functions the cell cams are a very helpful tool. They allow me to pick days to hunt with more information in mind. Now we do go out often in the late summer and early spring to do some boots on the ground scouting. But to get rid of call cams might make sense for one guy but not for another.

Private land owners are pushing a lot of this crap. Same with baiting, etc. One rule should apply to ALL hunters.... you might own the land, but you do NOT own the wildlife. Greed is killing hunting. Thankfully, some DNR folks are fighting this.... I applaud Iowa DNR.

@Psychedelic-s4i don't know how to tell you this but Iowa is not the only state pushing these rules. And a lot of small landowners in many states are trying to get cameras banned on public, especially cell cameras. Frankly I don't care, my point is one rule for both, rather private or public.

Cameras on public ground is a tool that could be used to benefit everyone. Herd health, density . Predator surveillance and on and on. This would give the public a chance to survey share information with Department of Fish and Wildlife. Put your hunting license number on camera. Department officials would have a way to identify and contact you if necessary. Remember if your on public ground it is “public “ information is not private.

I feel the cameras have made a lot more mature buck because everyone knows there’s a bigger buck in the area. So now hunters are letting smaller bucks walk and end up eating tag soup and mad cause someone else shot their buck they were watching. I personally think cameras have saved a lot of deer from being shot. If you think u can go out and shoot a buck as soon as you get a pic, good luck. I hunt pa and don’t care about cameras at all, they just tell me where someone has been and I need to keep going.

@@ukjw2my guy, you are saying things that are 100x what actual reality is. Yes, there are a lot of cameras in use. They are a tool. Public lands are not overrun with cameras on every tree and cell towers pinging away with every step you take and drones flying over your head. It's just not close to being true. People are far more selective when using cameras; in my opinion. I would absolutely love to know the ratio of bucks that people got pictures of and then actually killed. I myself have gotten pictures of certain bucks for years, including the deadly cell cam pictures and never actually saw that animal on the hoof. Most states want to sell deer tags. Lots of deer tags. They dont care how easy it is for people to kill deer as long as they are making money. Deer are a cash crop, period. People are lazy. The same "hunters" rooting for cell cams, drones, whatever, want one thing. Instant success with as little physical work as possible. They are the same crowd that wanted their participation trophy for losing their soccer game. There is way, way, too much technology allowed in deer hunting. Ive been blessed to have killed several big bucks through the years, and all of them took alot of hard work. Zero were killed with cell cams telling me when and where to hunt. Im almost ashamed to be associated with being a deer "hunter" these days. Now i will get suited up in riot gear to protect myself from all the defenders of the lazy as they hurl their insults my way.
