lol thats me to the right in the bears jersey at 0:25. I started last year trying to vist every arena in AHL. i thought De Monies was one of may favourite Cities i've visted for a game so far very underrated. It was first time in midwest and i cant wait to get back out there this spring to see the Wolves and Griffens.

I just purchased tickets to watch the St. Louis Blues vs Utah HC preseason game here in September. I’ve never been to an NHL game as a neutral fan before but tickets were cheap and I also get to say I went to the first ever Utah HC NHL game. I’ve never been to Des Moines before so looking forward to it!

It seats 16K+ but typically won’t get close to that. The only time they open the third deck is when there’s a concert after the game

@@Shoreline71 we have never been in the fed. We had the QC Flames for 2 years in the early 2010’s in the AHL and then QC Mallards in the ECHL up until about 5-6 years ago. We’ve had the SPHL Storm now since 2019. Still a very good arena with great attendance, so there have been talks of getting an affiliated team back. I’m one of the teams broadcasters, so would love something like that😂

@@grantthebroadcaster Oh yea, SPHL, I e been to a few games in Fayetteville. Back when they were the Fire Antz and were decent. No more Mallards? I liked that gimmick! Lol I have people on the east side of Moline, I’d go to a game. Good luck! More ECHL teams are popping up in the south. Hell, I wish we still had Raleigh Ice Caps….free parking, $10 tix, ice cold beer, good hockey. Peace!

@@SACSportsAdventures w, also heads up for Des Moines, the last time I was there (it could be different now) it absolutely sucked. The lights were dimmed and the screen looked awful. It stunk like crazy too.

Only been to this place during the winter and I'd say it's pretty sweet. There's an outdoor skating rink on the other side of the river which seemed to be pretty well used. Unfortunately the State Capitol building was closed when I was there, otherwise that probably also is a place well worth a visit. And of course, if you're in for something more odd...take a walk Downtown Des Moines after the game is done. Granted it was winter when I was there but man, I don't think I've seen a more desolate place in my life! It was like something straight out of an apocalypse movie. Could basically walk in the middle of the road and the only signs of life was coming from the fact that the lights were still on in all the buildings!

Nice arena. With des moines hosting nhl pre-season game between blows and the h c would des moines be a good nhl city? Its big enough capacity (bigger than jets arena the nhl's smallest) and would be a nice fit between blows and mild. Bring a pro team to iowa. Bring nhl to des moines.

@@SACSportsAdventures Not sure. Des moines population 2024 is 209,232-118 in u s population. nhl's newest team slc population 2024 is 212,515-115 in u s population. So it would be the nhl's smallest market. winnipeg canada's smallest nhl market is at 749,607. qc-549,459. And hartford former nhl market-119,126, 254 in u s population. With nhl downsizing to less congested smaller markets (lv, slc, back to winn.) and wanting to be the only pro team in a market perhaps des moines with arena nhl compatible size wise has a chance?

What is so ironic is that the arena in Philadelphia where the 76'ers of the NBA and the Flyers of the NHL, it was announced last week their naming rights deal is being terminated next year in 2025. What's the arena called??? You guessed it. The Wells Fargo and Company Center. Their name will be coming off the wall, outside of their building. You can't make this stuff up! 😀

Too big of an arena for an AHL club, the attendance and atmosphere would’ve looked better in a smaller arena 17k thats nhl size!

That is so true. 17k is larger than a lot of NHL arenas.

If you have a top tier stadium that isn't being used, you use that. There aren't a lot of middle ground stadiums in DSM and the Wild can sometimes draw a pretty decent crowd when they are good. Not big enough to fill it of course, but too big for any other options in DSM.
