Hi Ben, just finished watching Sonne Farms from South Dakota. They were applying granular fertilizer, but the interesting fact was they had soil tests etc done to evaluate where the crop needed the less or more fertiliser. This way there expenditure on fertilize was destvalue as well their crop also benefited by the best practice of applying the fertiliser. Are you able to do that with the Hydros? I am a Rancher and Farmer from down under, love your vids, if I could vote 100 extra I would.

When I was a kid growing up in Houston there was a tanker truck full of anhydrous ammonia that fell off a interstate overpass onto another freeway. Instantly there was a cloud from the 7000 gallons of pure ammonia. 6 people were killed almost instantly and another couple hundred ended up in the hospital with burns to their skin, eyes, and even worse, their lungs. Many of them were disabled for the remainder of their lives. A seventh victim died a couple years later. She never was able to recover from the damage to her body. It’s some very nasty stuff. Useful but dangerous. In addition to agriculture, it’s used in a lot of industrial processes. You still see the tanker trucks hauling it around Houston all the time. Hopefully they are more careful.

We keep the farm because it is paid for, provides us with a place to go and play, plus gives me an excuse to have a small tractor. Growing up, we had cows, pigs, and chickens, but as we all got jobs that required more hours and less availability for the farm, we got rid of the livestock and went to share cropping.

Because of probably a warming climate and warmer soils coupled with safety issues very few farms if any , here in the UK use anhydrous nowadays. I have not seen any equipment now for more than 35yrs! Most farms apply urea prills or crystals in cold/cool weather followed by applications, according to crop need, of ammonium nitrate or sulphate often with added sulphur. There is a steady growth of folks using liquid fertilizers which are are hauled in as a concentrate and the farmer dilutes them down for use. Many use ready diluted products where temporary lagoons (that look like massive children's play pools with floating collars which truck drivers empty their truck into. (The real beauty of the lagoons is they can be setup in any smooth level locations, eg grass, in or near where the product is required and speeds up application as little or no road travel needed. They are all applied by suitably modified / constructed sprayer type machines to limit corrosion on kit. The big recent development is the use of more and more waste products like sewage cake and food waste solids, animal waste (both liquid and solids) and stackable bio-waste mainly from green recycling or digester plants.
@iowANFarmer2 жыл бұрын
It seems like the UK has a lot of solutions to fertilizer needs. I watch Tom P videos, and love how his farm is a perfect cycle. Grass feeds cows, Cows make milk and Waste, Milk feeds humans, Waste feeds grass. Perfect.

Ben, what would happen if farmers left the equipment in the shed for a year? If you all could ever agree o do it. It would be nice to have the shoe on the other foot for once. Dennis Ivers runs a Case Quad with auto steer. Pete Youngblut is Cole's AG Leader guy, seems very knowledgeable.
@wolfonthehill51342 жыл бұрын
I think the National Farmers Organization tried to promote a similar idea of getting all farmers to not sell grain in an attempt to raise prices back during the 1980's farm crisis. It didn't work, just impossible to get enough farmers to agree and stick with the plan. Too independent in a way.

You most likely have a can bus voltage issue. If the can sees to much or to little voltage it will start to kick things off to recover. Auto steer would usually be affected first. The John Deere’s were notorious for having the terminator in the ISO connector off the rear of the tractor fail due to water, manure etc. I’m not sure if your case is set up similar. You’ll need to monitor can voltage high/low while it acts up. Good luck.

@@iowANFarmer I can’t believe the cost per ton. Our location can’t even get any more. Crazy this year. Hopefully prices go back down for all the farmers who are wanting to put on this spring.

Smart choice buying ahead. I have only seen 2 fields here in KS with NH3 being applied. The price is likely the determinant (time will tell). Keep posting the videos! :)
