EDIT: Works with iOS16
Back in May I put out a video showing you how to control your Tesla for free using the built in Shortcuts app on your iPhone. With the iOS 15 update, everything broke. I'm glad to report that things are working again.
This is a longer video than I normally do but I hope you find value in it.

@iowatesla

@@conradrygier4237 Sure. Go into that shortcut. Delete the line under Dictated text with the - 32 in it. Delete the next Calculated Result line. It will turn red. Delete the next calculated result line. Next there is a Set variable line with a red Calculation Result. Tap the red Calculation Result and select Clear Variable. Then tap the Input on that same line and select Select Magic Variable. From there, that the Dictated Text blue link just above the set variable line. From there, your dictated value in Celsius will get sent to the car. I wish I could post a screen shot to show you. It would be much easier.

Thanks so much for all of these Siri commands. It is so nice to be able to be hands free for some of the most commonly needed Tesla functions. A word of warning on the "Open Trunk" command: this is actually a toggle function, which can be nice, but also a little painful. This may be an unlikely scenario, but it just happened to me and my husband. We had groceries and it was raining. My husband got to the car first and I thought I would be helpful with my new commands and open the trunk for him (he has an Android, so doesn't have the Siri functions). He used the manual button to open the trunk at about the same time I told Siri to open the trunk. The trunk opened for him and he started to put the groceries in when the Siri function kicked in. Little did I know, but if the trunk is already open, sending the command to open it will actually close it. The clasp that sticks out of the trunk door bonked him pretty hard right on top of the head. Oof, I felt so bad. Anyway, just thought I would let everyone know and it's also a helpful way to close the door when hopefully no one is in the way.

As he mentioned in his video (this one or the previous one on the topic, can't recall now), if you have multiple Teslas, you have to modify the car that the shortcut selects. If you only have 2, it's easier, as instead of "First Item", you select "Last Item" in the "Wake Up Tesla" shortcut (right after the Comment section). Eventually you'll need to duplicate all the shortcuts you want to use, one set for 1 Tesla and the other set for the other Tesla. For the second set, you'll need to update all the shortcuts by giving them a different name, to know which car they are for, then first command which is to Run Wake Up Tesla, to run the second set's Wake Up Tesla. Suggestion would be to name the first car's set to include the name of the first Tesla and same for the second set. Another solution without duplicating would be to prompt which car you want to run the shortcut on, but that includes tapping on a selection or inputting soemthing which defeats the purpose of hands-free when called with Siri. Let me know if you need clarification in any way, shape or form 😊

I will be crossing this bridge myself soon. Ordered a MY for my wife. In the Wake Up Tesla shortcut, you will see a line item that says "Get First Item". For your second Tesla, you would need to duplicate the shortcuts and change this to Get Last Item. This will reference your second Tesla. You would then need to duplicate the shortcuts you want to use for the second Tesla and point it to the new Wake Ups Tesla shortcut. Hope that makes sense. It's cumbersome and I plan to rethink this when I get my second Tesla.

Thank you for putting the shortcuts together. I was hoping there was a work around that would not involve ponying up some cash for an app to get the Apple Watch to work with Tesla vehicles. That being said, when I use the “Hey Siri” command to launch a shortcut via the watch, the watch asks to allow or don’t allow the command as part of some Authentication. How do I get the watch to always allow? I assumed that after adjusting the privacy settings that this would not be an issue, but for some reason it is. Any idea as to why or is this a function of Apple Watch and Siri commands that I missed in your presentation?

@@HRezz So you mean to test the shortcuts via the Apple Watch folder. I hadn’t thought of that. I assumed going through the shortcuts via the folder of short cuts were enough. @HRezz
@HRezz 2 жыл бұрын
@@niqueo526 I don't think is so much that it saves twice, I think is more of the Permissions that iOS 15 requires now. it's basically giving permission for each shortcut on the iPhone and then again giving permission on the watch. this is something I thought would be mirrored from the iPhone as that's how I have all my settings but in my case, I had to manually do it on the watch again. the good news is that it's all working now.

I'm not tech guy so I'm confused. Why can't it just get authentication from the actual Tesla app? Why is a 3rd party app needed? I don't feel comfortable giving out my login info to unknown folks. Even better yet, what makes this faster than just opening the Tesla app and executing these commands? Idk, I guess I'm just confused.

The way Apple sandbox each applications means an app cannot share data with another app, unless that app explicitly has an option to do so, which Tesla does not. When you create your own app, you can leverage the Tesla login in your code, but when using Shortcuts app, you cannot do that. Instead, using your own credentials, you can connect to the Tesla API and get a token that identifies you. As he mentioned, that 3rd party app leverages the official Tesla login page, meaning your credentials are not exposed in the 3rd party app. Instead, the app is loading the login screen from Tesla to authenticate you and then requests a token on your behalf. The 3rd party app never knows about your password. The purpose of these shortcuts, compared to the Tesla app is mainly to allow you to use Siri and/or your Apple Watch for quick actions like opening the trunk or the frunk without having to open the Tesla app. For instance your hands are full, you have an Apple Watch and Siri activated, you just say "Open Trunk" and it opens without having to put the bags down and either open the trunk with the latch or get the app out to do so. It brings convenience. The other part is the automation, where based on events or time, tell your Tesla to do things without thinking about it, like warming up the car at 7am everyday, so it's ready when you leave the house. Hope this clarifies 😊

It looks like iOS 16.4.1 broke the short cuts again. When I say, “Hey, Siri, open the trunk.” Siri relies, “I don’t see an app for that.” It started this week after I updated the OS. Halp!! I love these shortcuts!!

That’s strange. I just updated to 16.4.1 and they work from the shortcuts app. Haven’t tried Siri yet. Do they run from the app for you?

I have 16, just uploaded all the shortcuts and they work, so maybe you just need to reload them. Idk. Worth a try.

What do I miss? Everything starts with „get Tesla token and id“ but I cannot find a shortcut like that. I probably don’t see something obvious, but what do I do wrong?

When you share a shortcut to iCloud, strange things happen sometimes. When I first developed the shortcuts, the Wake Up Tesla was named 'Get Tesla Token and ID'. Go into the Honk Horn shortcut and change the top Run Shortcut to Wake Up Tesla and I'm betting it will work. I need to figure out how to fix this for everyone else. Sorry about this.

Thanks for your effort, on top of the RUN Wake Up Tesla issue. I see the Car_ID is not consistent throughout the short cuts. Sometimes It is called carID. I tried fixing it but I am still get {“error”:”not_found”,”response”:null,”:”error_description”,””} on all shorts cuts.

@@f1gpsob Run the Auth for Tesla app and make sure that you have your login correct and you see your access token on the screen. It might help to refresh it inside the app. As for the car id, it is stored in the files at 'carID' but in the shortcut I use it as Car_ID - or at least I should be.

@@f1gpsob The commands are strange. I updated the link in the video description to make that section more readable. The call returns a dictionary and your car ID is indexed in the data from Tesla with just ‘id’. Give the new on a download and see if that works better.

Video may be useful but he leaves crucial steps out with NO way to find where he's at. In my Shortcuts App, there's no Wake Up Tesla option, so the rest is useless to me. Every one of these shortcut Tesla videos do the same thing, making them useless. Between Apple and Tesla, they keep removing the ability to shortcut open the trunk. SO FRUSTRATING!!!
