She actually escaped from the temple that the Qing Soldiers burned completely. She was of the five original monks that escaped came upon a peculiar scene of a crane following the syncing of the snake and that was how Wing Chun was born.

Wing Chun's Origins in the Shaolin Temple Wing Chun is one of the youngest and most contemporary styles of Kung Fu, having been constantly refined and adapted over its 300 years of existence. Considered to be one of the three great martial art styles of Southern China, it was founded during the Qing Dynasty by a Buddhist nun, Ng Mui, of the famed Shaolin Temple. Ng Mui, one of the top five fighters of the day, aimed at designing a more effective fighting method which did not rely on brute strength to be effective. Legend has it that she found her inspiration after witnessing a fight between a stork and large rodent where the stork was able to repel the rodent’s attacks by using its wings and legs to attack and defend simultaneously. She named her new style Wing Chun (which translates as ‘everlasting springtime’) after one of her top students, Yim Wing Chun, who used it to defend herself against an unwanted suitor. Wing Chun differed greatly from other Kung Fu styles of the time in its theory, the structure of its movements and means of generating force. It was not based on imitation (such as directly copying animal movements), but on natural, scientific laws, eliminating unnecessary movements to overcome and generate force in the most efficient way. Grandmaster Yip Man (Ip Man) Over the years, Wing Chun was handed down to only a small number of dedicated students. Yim Wing Chun taught it to her husband, Leung Bok Chau, who in turn passed on the knowledge to Leung Yee Tai and Wong Wah Bo. Leung Yee Tai then taught Leung Jan, who went on to teach his son, Leung Bik, and Chan Wah Shun. Both of these practitioners taught Yip Man, who went on to become a legend in martial arts circles and is still spoken of today. Grandmaster Yip Man is credited with having rescued Wing Chun from having been wiped out in the Chinese Cultural Revolution by migrating to Hong Kong in 1948 and introducing the style to the general public. Renowned as a teacher and an invincible fighter, he is considered to have refined and further perfected the system. Grandmaster Chu Shong Tin was one of Yip Man’s earliest students, having commenced his training in 1951, and became one of his main instructors. Acknowledged during his early years as the 'King of Siu Nim Tau’, he is today the world’s leading authority on Wing Chun Kung Fu. Grandmaster Jim Fung, who became Grandmaster Chu’s student in 1960, was one of the very few Wing Chun practitioners throughout the years who learned the entire Wing Chun system and reached the level of ability and understanding to be recognised as a Grandmaster. Japan was not part of WW2 at the time they invaded China starting in the 30s. They entered WW2 in 1940, when they already invaded China. It's called the Sino-Japanese war for a reason & not part of WW2.

Byakuren Houjuu This is the dumbest thing ive heard lmao. Russia had taken over Northern china before ww2 and japan went to war with them and won and took over. by the time when ww2 came along at marco polo bridge in china gun fire was exchange between some japanese and chinese troops and japan used that as an excuse to launch an invasion of china. learn your history my guy and if you watch ip man 4 at the end of the movie they say this

3:53 also for that the Japanese invaded China during the Marco Polo bridge incident in the late 1930s which led Fo Shan to decrease. The population of Fo Shan during that time was around over 300,000 and after the Japanese invasion the population decreased around 70,000. For the cages the Japanese general want to place a tournament for every win you get you get a bag of rice and during those times some jobs were open such as coal shoving cotton milling and mostly some factories.

This scene in the movie happened right before the Japan invaded China if you check out the movie. The guy from the north in this scene is only looking for a good fighter to fight with as where IpMan used to live and is living this scene, Foshan, is the land of Kung fu hundred of different style of Kungfu exist and are taught just in foshan in the history. Which most of the style in thousands styles of kungfu are lack of combat experience nowadays and become martial arts. Not so long later after this scene, The Japanese had invaded China and reach foshan and conquered Ip man’s house for Military uses.

It is originally based on Shaolin, but it was developed by Ng Mui, a woman, then popularized by IP Man and his sons. Great reaction again! If you realized already Shin is also at the end of the fish market scene!

In that time also was the Second Sino Japanese war. Basically Japan were trying to do like Germany did to Europe: take over the continent. Japan was taking over Korea, Taiwan, bit of Laos I believe, Mongolia and China. Then they attacked Pearl Harbor 3-4 years later and Japan was officially inserted into ww2
