Thanks for the explanation Juan. Having the HTC 10 only being IP 53 is plenty for me. When shopping for a phone, each individual needs to figure out what their needs are and find the best phone to suit those needs. Like a vehicle purchase, I bought a Prius because I commute 50 miles ones way for work reach day. If I was not driving that far, I probably wouldn't have considered that vehicle. Just slap a rugged case on the phone if you need more protection.
@SomeGadgetGuy8 жыл бұрын
I'm just hoping more manufacturers actually detail the ratings for their phones. Like what would the IP rating of a G5 be with that battery slider? At least then I would have a better idea of which cases I should buy.
@samuelventimiglia73278 жыл бұрын
+JuanBagnell I agree that a dedicated consumer phone standard should be looked into and adopted for normal buyers, not just for tech enthusiasts.

I'm an outdoorsy type who spends a lot of time biking and hiking in the wilderness, so I prefer a rugged or slightly rugged phone that I can use with no case. My Droid Turbo 2 fits this bill perfectly. However, it's not a deal breaker for me though since like removable batteries, ruggedness is hard to come by on a high end phone nowadays. I can cope with a fragile device in a case.

Great breakdown! I've wanted a rugged phone for a while but haven't been too impressed with the offerings. The S7 active definitely sparks my interest but sadly, I'm not willing to switch carriers to get it. I don't like to use cases and usually am super careful with my devices (almost annoyingly so) It would be nice to have a device that I don't have to worry about one of my kids getting ahold of. I also workout a lot and I'm very active so a phone that I can relax around would = prayers answered! lol

So my moto X 2014 without a case survived a fall from my chest height on the screen, but broke when it fell from my pocket WITH a case ( and what's worse is that the screen broke, but the gorilla glass 3 didn't ), WTF physics laws ?
@SomeGadgetGuy8 жыл бұрын
The tricky thing about drops, there's always the potential that the higher drop did crack, fracture, or degrade the internals in way which you couldn't see until the phone was dropped again, and that small damage was exacerbated. It's why I think drop tests are little more than gadget destruction porn. They're rarely well conducted tests. Even our own. THey're just entertainment.
@Some1Something8 жыл бұрын

Water/dust resistant/proof is a must have for me and I have been using such phones since the old Sony Xperia Go and atm using a Samsung S7E. And I don't think I could use a fragile 600 dollars+ smartphone ever again that is not at least water resistant.

Have my note 5 in a ghostek atomic 2.0 case. It give a waterproofing and major drop protection even better than otterbox.

For me, if the screen is durable and shatterproof I'm happy. Water resistance is a nice addition.

Ditto. In my daily life I'm more concerned about drops.
@MrDrWho138 жыл бұрын
Do you favour the plastic screen of the Moto X Force/Droid Turbo2 over a glass screen with much better scratch resistance but not as much shatterproofing?
@SomeGadgetGuy8 жыл бұрын
MrDrWho13 It's tough to say. I really liked the peace of mind walking around with a kyocera brigadier. Terrible computer, pretty good phone, and it felt like an absolute tank. I shot an old video raking concrete across the display with no marks at all on the sapphire. I just knew it wouldn't be any more durable in a drop than gorilla glass.
@OmegasMusic8 жыл бұрын
MrDrWho13 I prefer the shatterproofing, I could get a glass screen protector for the hard scratches.

+Picasso's Journal Oh how the tables turn! Edit: I clearly haven't a clue how to tag people.
@KyleRuggles8 жыл бұрын
Exactly what people needed right now heh. I've been telling people it's water resistant but many are telling me it's water proof. , some people can be so stubborn. Water Proof is in the eye of the beholder I guess. This is exactly what I needed too! I didn't read up much on ip ratings. I'd go for a rugged phone like the V10, since I do have a preference for great audio and a strong build, but water proofing isn't important to me, since most of the times and I don't use my phone near a sink, pool or toilet bowl lol, now that's just silly :P I just wouldn't pay a premium to get it, a $40 otterbox and a glass screen protector is enough for most folk. Having the ability to switch cases or not use a case at all, to me, is more beneficial.
@SomeGadgetGuy8 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I'm still torn on the case thing. Like the price difference between a GS7 and a GS7A is usually about what a nice rugged case and screen protector might cost. But other factors like battery size are usually improvements. I just don't like using cases in general. If I like how a phone looks I want to use it that way, not cover it up.
@KyleRuggles8 жыл бұрын
JuanBagnell True true, that's why it's great to have the V10, looks great and can take a tumble without sacrificing much. I have a case on my G4 now, the Spigen Rough Armor, not thick and provides protection from drops, I've never had any glass screen protectors cuz I use a case lol and I'm careful. I actually prefer to use a case, especially with a device that's being used constantly. After I dropped my Iphone 4s, I vowed never again to use a phone without a one lol. $120 screen replacement isn't worth the price of a "good" $20 case heh. But there are some who are clumsy and very active so I can see the value heh.
8 жыл бұрын
+JuanBagnell Amen
@SomeGadgetGuy8 жыл бұрын
LOL yeah true. I should amend, that it's not that I NEVER use a case, just more that my case usage is context specific. If I'm out on a location shoot, armor that baby! Just daily errands and social stuff, leave it naked.

I love that the AGM line got the Qualcomm, Whereas Qualcomm-made processors are popular in UK phones, many Chinese phones come with cheaper MediaTek chips.The fastest among these (the Helio X25, X27 and X30): but still: typically speaking they're not quite as fast as their Qualcomm cousins, though they are more than capable of your daily tasks. The x2 (agm x2) got NFC and Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 (MSM8976 Pro) so... yeah! thats the main reason i considered to getting that one and not this that you reviewed... nice article tho! thanks for it! :)
