On the surface the iPad 10 looks good. It shares the modern squared off design of the higher-end iPad Air and iPad Pro, new landscape camera and USB-C, all for $449. Not bad. But after using the iPad 10 for the past weeks, I can tell you, there’s more to this story. As there are some key areas where the iPad 10 makes some big compromises that I want to share with you in this video, and why I think most may be better off buying a different model in the current iPad lineup. The iPad 10 makes 3 main big compromises. First is the display which is not laminated and does not have an antireflective coating, significantly impacting the viewing experience. Second is the performance, the iPad 10 uses the A14 Bionic chip, a three year old iPhone processor that won’t last nearly as long as the iPad Air’s desktop class M1 chip. Third is the iPad 10 only supports the first generation Apple Pencil, which is far inferior compared to the second generation Apple Pencil, in terms of features and usability. At the end of the day, had Apple priced the iPad 10 closer to the $329 iPad 9, these compromises would be more justified. But it is not, at $449, it’s $150 cheaper compared to iPad Air, for that $150 you loose a lot, display quality, performance, longevity and Apple pencil support, this is why it’s hard to recommend. If you have the cash I’d go for the iPad Air 5 instead. If you want a budget iPad, Apple still sell the iPad 9, old design yes but at $329 it’s hard to beat from a budget perspective.

@@marion817 370 sounds justifiable considering the current inflation, especially if they could get it down to 350 with student discounts. I was in the market for an iPad but decided to go with a 9th generation when they hit 250 on sale. Hopefully Apple will backtrack with the pricing next year, or offer more premium features to justify the significant increase.

I use it mostly for taking notes in school and studying and it for the most part has replaced all my note-taking on actual paper. However, the screen is not as bright as I'd like. The lights in my class are super bright and I have to adjust my angles often just to see what I'm reading/writing on the screen. It could be my eyes, but I think a brighter screen would still help. Also there is no mute switch. This might not be an issue for most people but for me, this being my first ipad and being an iphone user, I'm so used to having it there. Everyone can hear when I'm typing with it in the library (probably just me overthinking) but I'm sure I can adjust that in the settings. Just kinda inconvenient. Other than that, I really enjoy it overall

I don’t have a problem with how the first generation Apple Pencil charges. I have a Lightning charger cord for my 9th Generation Apple iPad and I have the adapter for the usbc power cable used on the tenth generation iPad. I just don’t see what all the problem is the 1st generation Apple Pencil will stay charged for two weeks, a lot longer than the iPad.

Same. Air will definitely last longer but will the battery? Lifecycle of any product is no more than 3-4 years. Replacing battery costs a lot and its smarter to just sell the old ipad and buy a new one. Not laminated screen? I was amazed... how I dont see it at all. And Im using mbp m1 and iphone 13 for a long time with laminated screens and still dont see any difference. Its a perfect ipad for a daily consumer who is not going to do any pro work on an ipad. If you do then buy a pro. Actually, I dont understand why you should buy air. Its almost identical. Pro has 120 screen which makes difference. But air is almost the same P.S. bought air to my father, still dont see any difference

Several things will likely impact your decision: 1) Your budget 2) Whether you care whether you're using apple pencil 1 or 2 3) Whether you care about the landscape selfie camera. 4) Whether you care about having a laminated screen. 5) Whether you feel your uses for the device will justify getting the m1 chip.

All products are a compromise. It is the bean counters that make engineering decisions and not the engineering division. This is why my iPad 10 has 256GB of hard drive storage. I thought about the Wi-Fi-cellular version but not very long at another $100+ and another monthly charge for cellular service. I am on my iPad 9, now. It is smaller than the iPad 10, but very functional.

I honestly think that Apple made the 10th gen iPad to be a hybrid of the 9th gen iPad and the iPad Air 4. Like the non-laminated display, the 1st gen Apple Pencil support + the Smart Connector placement from the 9th gen iPad and the design + chip of the iPad Air 4.

i have to disagree with the lenght of support... apple ipad 5th gen was released in 2017 with A9 chip (A9 chip was introduced in 2015!!!) = still supported in 2023 (cpu is 8 years old but its compatible with iOS16) ----- ipad Gen 6 comes with A10 - A10 was introduced in 2016 = 7 years after release still supported with iOS16

These are great features that help me a lot in designing, especially fashion illustration through this iPad 10th is a wonderful experience. After seeing the arrival of Apple Pencil USB-C which is designed specifically to fill the shortcomings of the iPad 10. I believe this could be a better buy for me. I might get this over the iPad Air 5 as I usually do not run intensive tasks in my previous tablet, my Surface Go (1st Generation). You should be thankful that we have a product that is reliable. iPad 128 gb is a very good move. It replaces your whole laptop (hp, dell etc apart from MacBook ). You won’t regret it . I have iPad 8 128 gb which comparatively is very old in line with the new versions but still it is powerful with beautiful display which a high end laptop cannot give. @@OtgontsetsegBatkhuyag-ct4ue definitely go for ipad air5 if you have that budget and if budget is not your issue then definitely go for pro models ipad 8&9 are outdated and 10 has type C but if you go for air and higher models they support 2nd gen apple pencil and if you are going for 10th gen you need 1st gen pencil and a dongle unless you don't buy a cheap replacement for apple pencil but if budget is not your issue then definitely go for air 5 or pro models

Ipads in general are still bad no matter how fast they are. You are way better off buying a galaxy tab where you can do a bunch of things that you cannot do on an ipad. Ipads are toys still and I would say that an apple ipad air 2 from 2015 is still as good as the newest ipad.
