Awesome Video! It took me about 2.5 hours, but I was able to get through it and it works great! The home button works as it did before. Defiantly not a repair you want to rush through - take your time and you should do fine. The biggest challenge I had was getting all the broken glass off, there were many small shards. Also, be careful with the LCD. It is hard to work without getting something on it, and a bit of a challenge to clean.

Best guide yet, thank you. The first time i replaced my son’s iPad screen i was following another video and they did’t tell me to use the original home button, well now we can’t make any purchases and the old one was thrown out. I followed this one on an old iPad to see if i could fix that one and it’s worked like a charm.

Apple puts the sticky goo under the 4 LCD screw points so that they create an obstacle that only highly skilled techs can pass without breaking the LCD. Plain and simple. They'd say "Oh we put that there to add structural rigidity" or something, but there's at least 1 high skill obstacle with every screen repair for every iDevice that is designed to cause such a negative memory when the novice fails and indeed breaks their phone that they never attempt to repair their own device again.

1. There was already adhesive on your digitizer. Placing more adhesive, you would cause the glass to not sit flush with the bezel. Also you should clean the inside bezel with alcohol and then coat with a 3M adhesive primer. 2. Before disconnecting or cutting any cables you should separate the battery contacts with a playing card so that there is no energy to the board. Even though the device is not on, energy is transferring to the board and you may damage components. Battery should all be always be disconnected first. 3. You should be very careful touching the LCD or the inside of the digitizer glass as those are often difficult to clean.

If you've ever worked on an iPad mini you'll realize the glue on the corners arnt so bad haha to remove the lcd on this model I took a metal spatula and on the sides of the lcd next to the screw holes you'll see a foam cushion between the lcd and frame. Put your spatula right next to that foam insert and ever so slightly apply upward pressure using the frame to pry it up. Go nice and slow and it will eventually pop out.

Great tutorial. Unfortunately the glass was shattered at the bottom of the iPad and the home button cable was broken when removing the broken pieces... what do you advise please?
@UbergeeksBiz4 жыл бұрын
Yikess... once the home button is broken. You'll need 3rd party home button. Which will not work as touch ID. Just a normal home button. Hope the LCD screen still in good shape for you. Cheers
@aguilanero65714 жыл бұрын
@@UbergeeksBiz Thank you. Could you please post a link to buy the home button cable online in Europe? I only found it on eBay and iFixit US (no deliveries to France): fr.ifixit.com/Boutique/iPad/iPad-7-Home-Button/IF429-010?o=1. Also, there is a possibility to recover touch ID. It requires splicing the broken home button back together by overlapping the original home button cable with a third party one and microsoldering: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmSap62cgLuJitk

You should always remove battery screw and isolate battery before disconnecting any flexes, can blow backlight filter or cause other issues, this is asking for trouble, no offense, otherwise good video.
@UbergeeksBiz4 жыл бұрын
Recommend to disconnect the battery. If forgot, that's okay too. I've replaced over 500 ipad in 8 years. Never had issue with the battery stayed on. But of course, it's recommend to disconnect the battery.

It's criminal what repair places charge for screen replacements. I ordered a screen from gadgetfix with button for $12, spent about an hour removing glass and adhesive and had a fully functional ipad with a new screen for $12 and an hour of my time vs the $200 or $300 some places charge to do the same. Thanks for your videos

For phones like a 6 plus in the Mall charging more than Apple and using a no frills 11$ part and not putting shield screws in right, yeah but when it comes to an iPad it’s a Pita and it can be a nightmare if there’s a bunch of broken glass.

The back film - I removed mine. If not, the screen is blurry. About the ghost touching, you want to cover the sensor. That might be the case of going nuts.

Anybody notice that he completely ignored the Tessa tape on the new digitizer glass. Does he even know that adhesive is already there? How will this seal properly if his double-sided tape is attached to the backing of the Tessa instead of the iPad?

PROBLEMON!

I am following the process and have successfully removed the old screen and attached the new one. I cannot get the home button cable to insert into the zif connector though. I wonder if, when I open the little part, maybe it is not revealing the slot for inserting the cable. Does anybody have ideas about how to troubleshoot the problem? Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Home button flex cable needs to insert into the connector. There is a clipper on the connector, needs to open before insert flex cable.
