iPad Air 1 | Worth buying in 2023?

I’m using an air 2 right now it’s way better than a first gen , it’s running iOS 15.7 and I’m still abale to download every app after 8 yrs of owning it I’m so satisfied by it

yea the major issue with the air 1 is that you can't download 60% of apps due to the iOS version being too old.

@@kovyvuriim literally writing this in a iPad Air from 1th gen. And, well. Is a good device to study or watch movies or videos. The battery can last for 6 days depending the way I use it. And if you want just for book is a good device. (Sorry about my bad English).

Watching on an iPad Air 1. To be honest it’s alright for basic use in late 2024/2025 like listening to music or watching movies/videos and browsing the web. A lot of apps still work on it too.

Thank you, its great to see positive thinking. I noticed that stand alone apps will work from a usb drive, even on a touch screen phone and i have several very good apps that work alone. Ive never been one for expensive technical gadgets and see digitalization as just a tool. Bought an ipad air 1st generation for £18 (good condition) and now making animated film on it.

Am only 12 and I just got it now air 1 before I thought that it was the air 2 type but without fingerprint and another cool features but now i see that most apps on my phone weren’t even available in this iPad but still love it ❤

I used to own a 1st generation iPad Air I didn’t really like it much because the apps would crash a lot and some apps didn’t even work some roblox games would make the app crash and one of the apps I had on it worked but when I updated it the app stopped working I currently have a iPad 9th generation and It works perfectly and I love it

I bought one in 2014 and after many years im very surprised with it. For watching youtube, reading comics, simple Games for Kids Is enough. I didint expect but, battery is better than in my phone😂. Wanted to buy something for Kids but i dont really Have a reason to do it because of air1. Now im struglling about to buy something for me. Ive Got good offer for galaxy tab s9+ 12/128 400 bucks. But not sure to go for android or ios.

Android have cheaper prices but iOS has the ecosystem. If you dont mind leaving the Apple system and using Android on its own, then the galaxy is a good option. But if you use AirDrop and Hand Off, then iOS is the only option.

I've an iPad Air I bought new in 2013, if I'm not wrong. Still works fine, still holds battery charge, the screen is still nice. Never used it that much. But still use it for showing portfolio, drawing with the Paper app. The only thing I don't like it is its size. Not that big, not that small to take it around. I'm considering buying a Mini exactly for that, to be my digital Moleskine everywhere I go. Maybe, still am not sure...Still have a lot of real Moleskines :)

@@erhnjms unfortunately, no :( I've searched for older Procreate versions but none is available. But Paper is a nice does the job, is a simple app, no layers, quite similar to a regular Moleskine process

Yeah of course. It’s perfect for reading simple pdf files. The transition is smooth and the pages load fine.

I use it for KZbin sometimes, but it’s very slow and it can only run one app at a time. So my recommendation is to buy something newer for video streaming

Unfortunately if the ipad is locked, only apple can help. I’ve had something similar happen to a macbook air i bought years ago and it was locked. So maybe visit an Apple Store?

It’s pretty slow opening files and browsing safari, but yes it can do it. However it will use your whole RAM so you can’t run any other app while reading.

Can I ask if you can help me for this situation? My iPad Air 1 now, everytime I open the online games like Mobile Legends, it just opens. But suddenly backs up to the home screen. I can’t play because when everytime I want to play then I open those games, it won’t work, because within a second, it backs up immediately to the home screen. Can you help me how to fix this or how can I do something to fix this?

I’m not sure what is going on, but could be that the ipad is too old and the ram isn’t keeping up with the game anymore. Possibly the developers updated the game and it requires more processing power. If you really want to see what the problem is, you might have to backup your files and then reset the ipad to factory settings then reinstall the game. If that still doesn’t work, might have to upgrade your ipad sadly. Hope this helps.

You can buy a capacitive stylus/pencil but they don’t work as all plus they don’t have any electronics inside, therefore it’s basically a plastic finger. So i wouldn’t buy one. The Apple Pencil works with ipad air 4 and up, so maybe that could be an option.

There is no iOS 13 iPad, all iPads that came after the Air 1 can be updated to iPadOS 15 at least.

Yeah its fine for streaming. But most app’s aren’t going to be compatible such as Netflix which needs ios16 and above. But you can still stream via safari.

Hey James, With my experience, I've tried to airdrop video files to the ipad, but they don't seem to save or open. They are MP4 files as well. However, if I download a instagram story video and transfer that over, it works. I'm not sure what the deal is. Maybe the RAM can't handle the video or whatever reason. So if it's for videos, I wouldn't really recommend it. I've even tried airdropping 58sec short video MP4 (100mb), and it won't play or transfer. Maybe really compressed videos work? The decision is up to you. I'd personally buy something a bit newer for video.

Personally I’d recommend a newer ipad than this as the processor is slow and video playback might not be as smooth. Plus most streaming apps will need newer ios versions.

The iPad does get a bit slow due to its age and it also doesn’t support the Apple Pencil, so drawing wouldn’t be great on it. If you can afford to get something newer, I’d recommend doing that.
