I agree that, at the moment, the base iPad is the best proposition. Until iPad OS evolves in a substantial way, the usage experience is pretty much the same no matter the hardware, so paying 2x and even 3x the money makes little sense.

Another way to look at it is an iPad is one giant screen, so the one with the best screen? Unfortunately that’s super expensive but a 12.9” ProRes m1 iPad sells on eBay for a similar price as the baseline IPad which is pretty insane value. Food for thought :)

Currently using the 5th Gen iPad Mini, along with my iPhone 13 Mini and Apple Watch. The iPad Mini is the form factor that works for me - don't need anything MacBook or iPad Pro sized - so l'm waiting very impatiently for the new one. Thanks for the content.

The major reason for an iPad Pro is the 120Hz display. Bring it to lower priced models and there’s no need to buy the pro.

At this point, I'm considering picking up last years Air. Since it only costs a bit more then the standard iPads, but has support for the new pencil, has a laminated display and an M1 Chip, so they're compatible with the AI stuff. Whenever that actually launches in Europe, that is.

Just replaced my 2018 iPad Pro with the latest 2024 13 inch and am so pleased and happy with it and the apple keyboard. I think I had waited long enough for the upgrade. I once used the paperlike for about 6 months but found it dulled my screen so much, that when I removed the cover it was like night and day that I had missed the glossiness of the true iPad screen for so long. Paperlike is pointless with a now tandem oled screen. Nice video thank you.

For my personal usage, I find that upgrading from iPad Pro 2020 to M4 makes a difference. My previous iPad started being slow for the work I do. And the lightness does make a big difference since I bring a lot of stuffs everyday.

The USB C pencil is worth getting if you’re using it for note taking. I have the Apple Pencil Pro and it is trash when I’m trying to write notes in Freeform or the Notes app using the calligraphy tool because that barrel roll feature messes up my handwriting. And what’s great is that the pencil is compatible with all the iPads currently in the market.

I have a question about buying an iPad for university. My budget is around 500€, preferably less. I’m considering the iPad Air 4, which costs about 350-400€, compared to the iPad Air 5, which is 500€+. I will mainly use it for studying and small apps, I atore almost everything in iCloud, so the 64GB version should be enough. Is it worth spending the extra 100-150€ for the iPad Air 5, or will the iPad Air 4 meet my needs just as well? Thanks!

M1 iPad Air is honestly amazing I thought that the 60hz would be bother and it definitely did but after a while the speedyness of the apps loading and everything made the iPad feel faster so it’s the best one to buy right now

Also consider the option of buying an iPad through a cell phone carrier: Two weeks ago, I purchased my new iPad Air 13” M2 for $40/month (+$20 cell service). However, they currently offer a $30/month discount off my internet service plan when I buy an iPad. So all in all, I pay $30/month for the cellular-enabled iPad Air 13. Just an option.

Hi Tom, so my old iPad 2017 pro was on its last legs. So I decided to upgrade a week ago to the new iPad Pro. And have to say your content looks amazing on this new OLED screen. I really only need it for casual use. Surfing the web, KZbin, email that sort of thing. But wanted to treat myself and also future proof myself at the same time as I plan to keep it for 5 plus years. And of course I got the Magic Keyboard to go with the 13 inch pro. My heart tells me to keep it. But…my brain says for that money get the MacBook Pro. I’ve got 5 days to decide whether to send it back? What’s your thoughts

THE ONLY COMPARISON VIDEO THAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR! I chose the iPad Air 13! Instead of buying the iPad Pro 2024 base model with 256Gb Cellular, I bought the Air 13 with 1Tb Cellular which currently have the same price tag on amazon at the moment! 120hrz and tandem OLED from Pro aren’t that of a big deal for me. It’s the storage! It supports the new pencil Pro as well. Never considering keyboard as I have a Macbook. With Air 13, I’m sitting right next to the king, Pro. Safely.

I have the latest Pro 13 and the iPad mini and I don’t think I’d recommend them to anyone even though I love it. They’re very niche enthusiast devices. I agree with the recommendations here - if you are looking for a simple iPad, go for the 10th gen iPad. If you want a nice secondary laptop style experience, get the 13’ Air. If Apple were to trim down their product portfolio, it would simply come down to keeping the basic iPad and the current Air (maybe with a 120hz option). And hopefully one pencil to support both lines. Everything else in their iPad lineup is unnecessary right now.

Great comparison, the iPad lineup is too confusing with too many options. Personally I don't see why anyone should buy the iPad Air for £599 when you can get the M1 iPad Pro refurbished for £549 with faceID, 120Hz and Quad Speakers for £549. The only exception I can think of is when Apple releases their back to school sale where you can get the education discount with a free gift card of £80 I think it is for iPads.

I purchased an IPad Pro M1 a couple of years ago. I also got 1 TB of space. I have only used 35 GB of space so far. I use it for email, KZbin Video's and reading books and magazines. I don't think that I would need the additional features of the M2 or M4 because I don't do video editing or advanced functions.

A bit, on iOS 18 there’s an option to have larger icons which looks quite pleasing since it removes the names of the apps, the grid doesn’t change though so we can never fit more apps in a row.

Imo, iPad pro M2 11 & 12.9 was a better deal just recently at Best Buy & BJs when the price went down $300-400. 120hz is noticeable. I got m2 11 256gb @650. M2 12.9 was @900. Big difference.

I think that I read somewhere that the cellular version also means the inclusion of GPS/location services. While cellular in itself might not be so important , the location services is much more useful for the user experience in some apps.

The Wi-Fi models omit GPS, true, but location services as implemented in most apps (say those who don't need to pinpoint you down to the decimal coordinate, but rather need to know your current street) still typically work just fine as they do on for example a Mac. The device just uses your local IP and triangulates known Wi-Fi SSIDs to get a rough idea of where you are.

The iPad Mini is more like a giant phone if you go for the cellular model. A foldable phone makes more sense than an iPad Mini since the screen sizes are very similar.

My lenovo tab p11 starting to die and after my brother lent me his 10th gen ipad for about week to convince me to get an ipad since it does have slight sell, decide to get myself one. I dont plan to do anything heavy on the ipad, be something nice to have on my bed when chilling or by my side when im gaming on my console. Got myself a typecase keyboard cause i used same type for when i had an amazon fire hd 10 and used it for years and liked it but the amazon fire hd 10 was bit limited compared to other budget friendly, mid range, and premium tablets.

I bought iPad 10th gen just for writing and viewing PDFs, but it was far less snappy than I expected. The 4GB of RAM feels noticeably lacking compared to the iPhone 15 Pro.

Hi, Vahid from Hamburg has a suggestion for you: Please make your voice on video with a normal speed of talking and more naturally. It seems that after recording, you increase the speed of your speaking in the final cut. This decreases the understanding for non-English speakers and makes your videos, or similar ones, more annoying. Because of adhering to this principle, MKBHD videos are more interesting and understandable for non-English people. Everything else on your channel is awesome. ❤ Thanks 🎉

Hi! I have 13 inch Pro, and front camera is very grainy!! Horible FaceTime and Zoom meetings!! Exact same problem on previous model. Apple aware of this issue, but just wonder why nobody talks about it? I am so surprised. If you google it, there is a tread going on about it..Your screen was looking not grainy with front camera on, that made me wonder?? cause some people returned and bought another one still had same issues.. What is your input on that?

I’d use one for taking notes, reading documents, ebooks, YT, etc. I like all of them but still looking at Galaxy Tab S9 FE. I’d be happy with the base iPad but 64GB? If I go for a 256GB option, then the 128GB new iPad Air would be a better choice (enough storage)for a little extra expense. (£99) Add in Apple Care, pencil, case and I’m in the thousand range. Still at 60Hz though. With the 9SE, I’d have a 90Hz screen, (sweet spot) waterproof, same screen, 128GB, which I can upgrade to 1TB with a cheap memory card. Oh, and the pencil included for £389 on Amazon. 🤔Still, I think they are nice products but even if I buy the top of the range version, I’d still need a MacBook for image and video editing. Hard to justify unless I look at the long term software support, especially on the M series devices. If I could use them for media editing, same as the MacBook, then I’d be happy to pay the high price for the Pro. The new Final Cut Pro 2 shows that Apple is working on this. So, we’ll see.
