Love this project and you gave some great tips along the way! What type of belt did you say you used to file the burrs off the end of the rod? I assume it's a belt especially for metal? I only do woodworking so I'm not familiar with that but do have a sander that is almost identical and think that belt might work fine on it. These phone stands would make great gifts since most everyone has smart phones these days. They don't take much wood so it would be nice to use exotic or figured woods. Your branding iron is awesome by the way. Thanks for sharing this project!

Thank you "Arizona". It is good to hear from you again. The sander I used is just a $49 1" belt sander from Harbour Freight. I thought it would be junk, but it works great. The belt's grit is harder than steel, so it cuts metal just fine. I hope you make some holders for gifts. Take Care!

@@gfotinakes316 You have a good memory George. It's already starting to get "toasty" here in AZ! I have a 1" Rikon sander that looks very similar to yours but mine is for woodworking. Do you know if I would need to buy a special type of belt for filing metal like you did or will a course grit woodworking belt do the trick? It would be nice to make up a bunch of those phone stands to keep around for gifts as needed. Everyone has a phone and they would be a great gift for anyone even if they're the type who are difficult to buy for. They could be stored unassembled until ready to give to someone and wouldn't take up much space at all. I think brass rods might look good also. You came up with another great idea!
