Pretty much, the iPad mini line has always been a bit of a disappointment (iPad Mini 2 -> iPad Mini 3, all they added was Touch ID, EVERYTHING else was the same)

New to the iPad Mini 7 are Apple Intelligence, A17 Pro (the same chip as last year’s iPhone 15 Pro models), upgraded base storage to 128 GB, added Wi-Fi 6E support for those with routers that support that connectivity, and a faster USB-C port that is twice as fast as the last model with data transfers up to 10 Gbps, which makes uploading large photos and videos even quicker. And don’t forget that it now supports the Apple Pencil Pro. I feel the next iPad Mini should have more substantial upgrades like an OLED display, 120 Hz refresh rate, and perhaps a matte display for reducing reflections.

Its using Apple Pencil Pro now. And its losing the nano-SIM. And you get 128 now instead of 64 for the base model. Also, update to Wi-fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 And that's kinda it. This is really more of supply-chain update more than anything else. Kinda similar from 4 to 5. They don't even really update the number to 7. Apple prefer to call it Ipad Mini (A17 Pro)

Because its honestly abit difficult to call it a widespread problem. Some saw it and their day is ruined forever. Others, like me, barely able to see the problem even after videos pointing it out and I test it myself. Like, its there I guess? But you honestly will forget about it soon enough. I almost exclusively use Ipad Mini in portrait for reading novels and manga, and I really struggle seeing it in-person. Technically speaking, Ipad also can have the jelly scroll problem, its just on landscape instead of portrait. I guess its like the 60 to 120 Hz. Some ppl use 120 Hz and they will feel sick if they were to use 60 Hz again. Others may see the benefit of 120Hz when you point it out and think its neat, but they don't mind using 60 Hz and they will forget the difference quickly.

Ok, can we talk about glued down coax cables? I've worked on plenty of devices, and I have NEVER seen glued down cables like that. That's completely unacceptable. Especially since they're super fragile as is. That's automatic points off for repair.

That's what I'm thinking too. They could be compensating for it in software. The newer GPU could be accelerating the compensation. They may not be able to backport the compensation without making it laggy. It'd be interesting to see CPU and GPU usage during scroll.

The mini is the only with the display driver/display board running on the long side of the display- most of the other ones are positioned along the short side and have flex cables that bring the connectors to the long side

Jelly effect is always there, it's just that mini 2021 became the meme because of its screen refresh orientation. Mini's screen refreshes left to right in portrait whereas majority of devices refresh left to right in landscape.

Jelly scrolling occurs when the display is used to refresh its reverse side from the panel's original refresh orientation. Tbh I can't imagine apple still having this while getting away just because of its apple

@@neetop1557 yes it's always there but it's not noticable because in correct orientation refreshing doesn't conflicts hence without slow motion camera it's invisible. While with reverse orientation it conflicts with Pixels.

I returned the mini 7, jelly scrolling still looks pretty bad to me and I think they slowed down the frame rate in portrait mode while scrolling making it look choppier. Can you test the frame rate in portrait?

Even the change from the 6 to the 6s was far larger than with this iPad… the 6s was a good upgrade as it offered a much better camera, 4K videos, 3D Touch, got more durable (it didn’t bent as fast as the iPhone 6), Touch ID second gen. and some minor enhancements. Compared to that the iPad mini only got a better processor…

120Hz and variable refresh rate is stingy. OLED is likely due to battery, though. The iPad Pro added a bigger battery and redesigned the internals to account for it but that’s a little harder in the mini.

I’m curious if the display drivers from the 7 can be swapped into the 6 to fix jelly scrolling, assuming that’s what fixed it on the 7. That said, I’ve never seen jelly scrolling in normal use. I tend to use it in landscape mode so that’s probably a big reason why.
