I think the iPad mini should have a pro variant. Not with the M series chip but ProMotion, XDR screen etc. Lots of people want the mini with a better screen. It is also great if there is a better speaker and microphone on them. The 11-inch pro is more portable than the 12.9 but still kinda heavy.

It would be nice if the chapters were labeled with what the topic of each one is, rather than numbers. Instead of ‘1’, have it say ‘new chip’ Instead of ‘3’,have it say ‘display changes’ ‘4’ -> ‘camera upgrades’ Etc I want to be able to scroll around and decide if a particular section, or the rest of the video, is worth using up my limited free time in order to watch. I realize you are doing this thing with the numbers in order to increase total watch time, by making it so that people cant scroll around like I described. I’m just expressing that I don’t like it

Good update. I am still on the iPad mini 5 and performance is fine for me except for the battery life. I do plan to replace the battery soon. I do mainly content consumption on the iPad mini so I don't need the best performance but I would like the slightly larger display and USB-C charging. I think that 2024 would be a good year to upgrade as that will make it 6 years old. I will still keep the iPad mini 5 around as they are nice to have around the house for reading books.

Horizontal camera might not fly on the mini for two reasons: 1) the Apple pencil 2 and 2) the small form factor obviates any potential benefits of a change in camera orientation

Personally, the current Mini has been so good that I doubt I'll be upgrading. I don’t notice the 'jelly scroll', and the 6 does everything I need it to do. Battery life is very good and iPadOS 17 Public Beta is running very well. There's just no real reason to spend several hundred dollars more on yet another Mini. One can chase the technology for only so long. The Mini 6 is already that good! Everything you mentioned are just refinements on an already great iPad and nothing you can’t live without.

I LOVE the iPad Mini! I hope it does get updated, but I hope they give it an M series processor. I honestly feel like the Mini & Air should have the same specs because they are the same class of device. The Mini is just a smaller version of the Air. An M1 or M2 in the Mini would be killer!!!

I admit that I didn’t think much about the thermal stuff, but I understand that an M series may not be possible. With that said, some kind of power bump would be amazing! The portability of the Mini makes it shine, and more power would increase the usability across more applications. I feel like the Mini already has a ton of applications that would be awkward using a larger iPad, but this would make it even better.

@@Watchandlearn91 the Mini doesn’t necessarily need a power upgrade, but it would be a nice improvement in a couple of areas. The first is gaming performance. The Mini is already a very good device for gaming, but a spec bump would improve performance in this area significantly. The graphics cores are much better in the M series processors. That leads me to my next point, the improved graphics performance would help the Mini perform even better as an art tool. The Mini is a surprisingly good sketchbook. The small size works well as a replacement for the small sketchbooks that some of us artists use. The spec bump would allow for and artist to use more layers in their work. I’m sure there are other improvements that would be added, but those 2 are the ones that struck me initially. I agree with you that the OS is holding iPads back. Honestly, that’s why I don’t own 12.9 iPad Pro anymore. I just couldn’t justify the cost of the device for what I was using it for. But with that being said, the Mini just hits the sweet spot for this kind of device.

I currently have a 2018 11” iPad Pro & an iPad mini 5. I use both as digital sketchbooks & to edit photos & videos on… as well as for media consumption…but I use both slightly differently. I mostly use the iPad Pro at home and the iPad mini when on the road or when i want to travel light. I use a first gen apple pencil with the mini & a 2nd gen pencil with the pro. I really hate the charging method on the first gen. I didn’t upgrade to the mini 6 for various reasons. The main one being the jelly scroll issue. But I’ll definitely be upgrading to the mini 7 if it comes out in September. Then later next year I will finally upgrade my 11” ipad pro to one of the new OLED M3 ipad Pros when they come out. This time I may go for the 12” since I mostly use it at home.

One thing I really want for the Mini, and this is probably more of a iPadOS thing, is full screen capability for external monitors! It’s really annoying seeing those giant black bars! Also, a better Files system would be appreciated to make it a true replacement for a MacBook, especially when traveling.

When I first started looking at getting an iPad it was the Mini 6 that attracted me. Carry it anywhere no problems, perfect e-reader, good for gaming and the perfect size to prop up next to me in bed to watch videos. The main thing luring me to the 11" Pro is the 120Hz screen and the idea that I might "one day" want to do more intensive media creation on it (I have a desktop for that). Now a friend is giving me their old 2017 10.5" Pro so I'll know which size I really want soon enough. The old one won't be supported much longer and that will be the sensible time to upgrade, so I get the benefits of the next gen models.

I think the webcam should stay on top because I think that's the way it's best used, some people may use it with a folio but that's just my opinion. I would hope for an upgraded screen, chip and cameras if it doesn't come with a bigger bump. I think if both the iPad mini and air would get these it would help separate them from the iPad 10 and it gives the pro space to improve.

I just got the 6 on sale in 256gb and I have a m1 11in. I just use it only for my purse on the go to digital plan and casual surfing as much as I would love a m chip or 120gz and a better cooling system I’m ok with the 6 for a while since it’s only used when out and about.

Currently, IPad Mini 6 si already a good device specially for gaming… the only downside why people are hesistant is because of the default/standard capacity 64gb… APPLE, its 2023! you need to step up on the capacity as more apps and games are now beyond 10gb… no wonder sales is not that good….

It's really distracting especially if you're used to Promotion on the iPad Pros and Macbooks, but it's a game of compromise since it would be prohibitively expensive. I went to BestBuy and tried the Air next to it and it's noticeable. I did get it though since I wasn't going to read that much but use it for music and as a baby monitor.

I think one of the reasons why the ipad is not selling that well right now is because of the competition. In my country, tablets like samsung tabs, xiaomi pads, huawei matepads, etc. are more famous than the ipads especially for their lower prices. I have the ipad pro 2020 and I only use it in watching youtube and netflix. If I am to upgrade right now, I'd get the xiaomi pad 6. I will only upgrade to the next ipad pro when my current one is not anymore supported.

I have the iPad mini 6 and it is my most used internet consumption device. My only issue is that I want mobile connectivity to include the phone interface so that I can use it to make phone calls as a backup for consolidated travel purposes. The 8” form factor is just barely big enough to use with a small BT keyboard to replace a laptop or my overly heavy M1 iPad Air and Magic Keyboard. (It is heavier than a similarly sized laptop) What was I thinking paying that much when I should have bought the M1 MacBook Air instead? I really want apple to blur the lines with the new iPad mini and add the proper phone interfaces, I like having a second phone number on a different network, and the mini is small enough that I can take it everywhere along with a phone. I can use ear buds to avoid holding the tablet to my head obviously 😂

1. New chip is 100% certain, which chip is the main question. 2. Battery life improvement are likely a given with the new chip, doubt it will have a larger battery though. 3. I doubt they will fix an issue with the display which they have publicly said is a non-issue. They never fixed the iPad Pro bend gate issue which they also claimed was ‘normal’. 4. Camera improvement are also a given, the typical improvements, I doubt they will relocate the front facing camera though as that will require an entire internal redesign. 5. Connectivity changes are likely. Overall, I expect the exact same looking device with chip and camera improvements and likely a new colour option. Doubt it’s going to be major refresh though unfortunately. I wouldn’t be surprised if we just get a site refresh in December or January with the iPad mini and Air as all rumours are pointing to no iPads this year, and Kuo has stated iPad mini mass production is expected to start in early 2024, these two devices don’t require an event IMO.

The bend issue was fixed with the m1 series

@@Mezzocrip they literally changed nothing of the chassis on the 11” M1 and there are reports of bent out of the box m series iPad Pro’s, just not as much with the 12.9” variant due to the thickness increase required for the miniLED display. The chassis was pretty much identical though and still quite easily bends. Unlike the iPhone 6 Plus bend issue, where they actually re-enforced the chassis for the 6S Plus. If anything to ‘fix’ the issue they may just change the orientation in which the screen refreshes but it will still suffer jelly scroll just in landscape rather than portrait (similar to every other iPad out there with a 60hz display).

90 or 60hz refresh rate, 180 or 120hz touch sampling rate, better response times ips screen, no jelly effect, bt 5.3, 6 or 8gb lpddr5, 128/256/512gb nvme, microsd (only with a miracle), 30w charging, some increase in thickness for a bit better cooling and maybe more battery, same screen to body ratio, better usb c.

iPads aren't selling as well because Apple consistently refuses to make good choices, opting instead for baffling ones. Put the camera where it's supposed to be. Open up the software, stop artificially bottle-necking. And they've been small/light/slim enough since inception. Just don't build it to fail in certain aspects and people will flock to it.

That’s gonna be a hard one to avoid. I absolutely love my iPad mini six but if they come up with the seven, I will be very tempted to upgrade. Of course I would also be tempted to upgrade my iPad Air if they improve that however budget won’t allow me to do both so I will have to continue to research and make some decisions. I am definitely upgrading my phone once the 15 comes out because my iPhone 12 Pro Max is great but it’s in need of retirement.

I have never gotten the fuss about this “jelly scrolling” thing. As a matter fact, I don’t even know what they are referring to! Unless you’re mindlessly doom scrolling, what difference does it even make? Ive had my Mini 6 ever since it came out, and have been using it mainly for media consumption, but also editing videos with Lumafusion. I rarely experience any hiccups as is!

Jelly-scrolling effect appears only in portrait orientation. In landscape the image is OK. It’s because Apple designed it for landscape usage (why, Apple? You’re marketing it as one-palm device!), thus the display matrix is turned 90 degrees. Jelly-scrolling has nothing to the refresh rate (well, in the way you’ve shown it). Older MacBooks and iMacs have 60Hz screens too, but they don’t suffer from this issue, do they?

Really wish they’d just put an Mx Chip in the Mini, even if it’s an M1, as that would give us a Mini Pro! Finally being able to use Face ID on a mini would be great (or will this work already? Since it works on iPhones is it a camera limitation, hardware lacking the infrared projector, or something else?) . And although the screen may be too small for most people to use things like StageManager, video editing, etc - the option to hook it up to an external big display and *then* be able to take full advantage of things like Video editing, stage manager to help with with app window management, etc would make this an awesome little powerhouse! Of course, extending this same idea to iPhones would allow an Apple to offer users something like Samsung Dex but with all the power and versatility of the absolutely unparalleled App Library of iOS apps available. Carry your Office in your Pocket! Underclocked m2 to keep it within the tdp of the chassis and battery. That and an oled that can go down to 30 fps at least. Or 24. Heck even 48

I personally will never buy an iPad mini until it gets 120Hz, as I just simply cannot put down my iPhone with 120Hz and pick up another device with 60Hz. A shame because the only iPad form factor I’d want is the mini.
