The idea of iPad IOS needing to be like Mac IOS seems odd. Yes, it would be nice if you could do some Mac things on an iPad but for the most part the 2 devices are used for different things. The iPad isn’t just for “quicker, simpler” things, there are some things that are more intuitive and easily done on an iPad than on a Mac.

M4 allows generative AI functions, allows more layers and computational support for artists, 3D rendering and modeling. Allows more graphic computing for games and controlling and displaying other monitors. If you just browse the internet/email/projects and organize files. A Mac is better. Especially if you grew up using a traditional computer with traditional file management and window management. iPads are a new view at computing and is committed to touch and drag and drop. You have to learn how to do this without a mouse. Hard for some but fun for others. iPads are made for their demographic and if you find using the iPad cumbersome, sorry to say you’re not the demographic. If you want a touch screen computer. Buy a Microsoft surface tablet. Oh wait no one buys those because a computer software on a touch based tablet suckssssssss.

I got the iPad Pro 13 inch, I was hoping for AOD, and a Samsung Dex like feature so apps can stay open and have a little more versatility, not to mention a better file management system. Let down but fortunately I needed an iPad and it fits the bill. 🍻 to hopefully getting the above mentioned features. The pen features are cool but not everyone uses it or needs it. I hope in a future update that we can change individual colors and not just apple to all for the icons and widgets.

An iPad isn’t a laptop, it’s not meant to run those kind of things. If you want that then just get a laptop. iPads are amazing for me. I animate easily and the quality is amazing. If you’re worried about the iPad being so powerful yet not running a laptops software, you clearly just wish your iPad was a Mac. There are so many things in iPadOS 18 that fix so many problems, and for me this feels like “A new era”.

​@@QuestAnimationsthe point is not that "the iPad is a laptop without a laptop OS" the point being made here is that "the iPad has so much power yet can't use it ANYWHERE" Yes the geekbench scores are higher, but numbers won't mean anything when there's almost no precevable different from what came before. Now, to be fair with the introduction of emulators on iOS this is somewhere negated and on top of that a very small selection of actual modern games (as in not mobile games) but still that's just one aspect of using a device. I may be completely wrong, I don't own a working apple device rn and I don't see that changing, but from what I've used and seen online, this is what I can tell.

Took apple 15 years to make app icons move wherever you want lmao. I'm a big apple user but it is frustrating how far behind they are. One thing they really should have got onboard with is underscreen fingerprint technology. Face ID is very good don't get me wrong but it would be cool if they implemented two different biometrics. I think the big thing is Apple have not justified the utterly ridiculous decision to skip M3 and debut M4 in a tablet not a computer The assumption from all the over the top tech KZbinrs was that these AI features were so advanced they could ONLY work with some new hardware feature that’s exclusive to the M4 But no…my 3 year old M1 iPad Pro can do absolutely EVERYTHING in iPad os18 that the M4 model can do…which is exactly what they’ve done for the iPhone let’s not forget! The new calc app will change the entire experience of using the iPad in so any ways. We won't need to change the file manager at all with it on our machines. It's the most important Mac OS future they could have chosen to include on iPad OS. It's the beginning of a new dawn for all users not just Pro's.

No one in their average day use is like “ you know what I wish I could do…write 1+1 and an = sign and have the tablet give me the answer that is inherently slower than just using a calculator or even asking chat GPT bruh

iPad for media use is great, it’s definitely not a work computer even though it’s more than capable with better software. No idea why Apple are pushing Mac specs with iphone software, it’s overkill. I bought the M1 iPad Pro thinking they were going to make the software more Pc-like and it’s still overkill 3+ years later for anything it can currently do.
