Its unbelievable they got away with writing this in one of the SR6's orange-boxes: "Mitigation policies have contributed to a decrease in global energy and carbon intensity, with several countries achieving GHG emission reductions for over a decade" Why would they highlight indicators such as Energy and Carbon Intensity? They only show how large economies are able to outsource the thermodynamic implications of their economic growth. Why misleading the public by applauding such metrics? NOAA's data, as Dr. Carter has explained, show CO2eq concentration is only accelerating!!! That should be the main take-away, and not other made-up feel-good indicators. I feel so let down and betrayed by this community of experts not willing to fight for the truth in their own fields of expertise.

The 1.5C ship has already sailed. i guess they keep talking about it so people don't lose hope. We won't even make 2.0C unless our politico-economic system changes drastically, and that's just not going to happen until it's too late. While individual action is necessary, it is far from being sufficient. It really only serves to divert our attention from the role of governments and large enterprises.

I decided to go vegan, cycle to work, stop flying and generally adopt a minimalist lifestyle. I realize this is futile in the face of a capitalist machine that spends billions on advertising to convince others to do the opposite. Most people act to maximize their self interest unless there are clear constraints, we need top down change and systems thinking to restructure our values and goals if we want to survive. Its all been said before and what changes, profit comes before survival it seems. Clock is ticking...

Actually, they spend billions on making you think what you are doing makes a difference: From BuisnessInsider Sept 18 2021: “The companies polluting the planet have spent millions to make you think carpooling and recycling will save us”

I disagree that we are the ones driving climate change. Individually, if I adopt all the requisite personal measures to cut my GHG emissions, but corporations and governments do not stop the life-killing growth agendas driven by money and power, the heating of the planet will continue. In fact, many tipping points have already been reached in environmental areas necessary for species survival, and even draconian measures by those in power may not save life on the planet. Science says changes to the climate are accelerating, and many changes are already locked in. When the planet's carrying capacity is surpassed, wonderful plans for sustainability are mostly temporary stop-gap measures (which I am hopeful can mitigate some climate emergencies for at least a few more years). There is a call for change, but it is already upon us!

That does not make sense as individually we all have to . I have got my annual carbon budget down from 7ton/year to 3 . Then i gave up all fossil fuel use went vegan and grow as much food as possible and now its down to 1.1ton/year ! You gotta show it can be done !

"even if sufficient capital is available, why isnt that capital allocated to solving the urgent problems of climate issues? That's the key question we really have to think clearly" Maybe because extractive and polluting industries are more profitable quarterly and yearly than climate positive infraestructure, which has more long-term yields and they're likely less profitable. 31 years after Río, I hope we see now that profit incentive has no place in creating alternatives to a life-destructing planet-warming island-swallowing economy.

Why do they talk like a computer? At it’s best it is very poor communication and what we need on this the most important issue, is good communication
