The drums on this track are insanely fast. Alex Van Halen is a beast.
@blppt
@blppt 3 жыл бұрын
Nah, not really. The double bass patterns aren't very fast. The guy playing them, Dave Lombardo, has played Silent Scream live before, and thats like constant 195bpm 16ths on the double bass. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqemk6aJi5eYrMU Back when this first released though, I'm sure it was pretty fast. And Alex always has some remarkably tasty drumlines, but he wasn't the most skilled double bass player. I love his playing in Van Halen, though, especially the (single) bass drum work in Panama---its just freaking perfect.
@craigharrison5406

@blppt
@blppt 3 жыл бұрын
@@craigharrison5406 This isn't 272bpm---its like 150 at best. 270bpm is super speed death metal territory. Only guys like Kollias or Inferno can play at that speed. Heck, Lombardo in his prime topped out at 248bpm (Necrophobic). Its very fast for the genre, yes.
@craigharrison5406
@craigharrison5406 3 жыл бұрын
@@blppt Completely different than thrash metal. Alex used more swing music type of beats. Those lightning fast metal beats never sounded good to me, just very repetitive. My original comment wasn't meant as a challenge to metal drummers, I was just appreciating the beat of this track. BTW I play guitar not drums so a lot of the techinical drum jargon...I'm clueless about.
@unclesalem23
@unclesalem23 Жыл бұрын
@@craigharrison5406 You're dead on. This is not a machine gun type metal song. AVH is a beast and most metal drummers know it and love him. He was extremely nuanced and at the speed this song is played, it is noteworthy.

My drummer who I didn't know much about at the time ask me if I liked the song "something something can't remember" and I was like "wtf?", and he says "Epic"? He was younger and knew I would know of this hit. I said I loved that song and hell yes I remember. Want to meet Patton, the lead singer from Faith no more? That night I was being handed kits, amps, wtf ever else was coming out of a trailer to help Mr Bungle and return given a beer I faked drinking because I had to drive us back home from Sam's Town that night. I don't even remember my drummer's name atm, that was some years ago lol But if I did and Mike saw it he would remember, I am sure. It was an epic evening/night. I am 47 now :P

@@SnakeOilRevolution you heard this song last year? I didnt know where to look or what to look for because i've only recently started digging into Mike Patton's side projects ^^

@@DutchDouchebag Yeah, I paid the small fee for the live streaming event and watched the concert Halloween night of 2020. Also Bungle in Brooklyn in Feb 2020 (right under the pandemic wire) and have seen Bungle in the 90s and 2000s... Seen a lot of Patton projects live - my favorite band of his is probably Fantomas. Patton is one of the most interesting musicians out there so you're in for a treat discovering his catalog. Also check out Tomahawk, General Patton vs The X-Ecutioners, Peeping Tom, Mondo Cane & Lovage.

@@SnakeOilRevolution yeah i checked mondo cane which was amazing even though i'm not really into that kind of music i could still appreciate it. Tomahawk's god hates a coward is in one of my favorite playlist for sure 👌🏼 I checked some fantomas but im not sure if its up my alley, seemed highly experimental but maybe i havent checked enough of it. Got kinda lost lately in side projects, went from voodoo glow skulls to buckethead because of efrem schulz, from there to dave Lombardo who he also worked with on some songs, then mr bungle, the melvins, fnm, etc.. straight down the rabbit hole lol

As a pure DLR impersonator, I'd say that Michael Starr from Steel Panther is better. Though, Patton made this his, rather than doing an impersonation, I'd say.

Scott is one of the great rhythm guitarists of all time. Now, I don't think he could play Eddie's leads, but there's nothing Eddie put to record riff-wise that IMHO is beyond his capabilities.

Ask anyone, Scott's known as a superb rhythm player and has one of the fastest right hands out of anyone. The early Anthrax albums proves it.

Mr Bungle is a group of FKN Monsters of talent. Trey is a beast. Trevor Dunn is a machine. Mike is the true definition of a conduit. Lombardo is THE DRUM GOD, and Scott Ian is a legend. You can tell they are all having a blast playing together. I hope they keep moving forward after these Easter Bunny tours.

Trevor: Hey Mike, I know you're perhaps the most dynamic vocalist in all of rock music for going on 40 years now, but I think my voice has really come into its own recently, and I think we should split vocal duties. Mike: No Trevor: Ok good point, bass it is

From a die hard fan of DLR VH- I have to say that this was incredible. I don’t think I’ve heard a loss of control cover previously, but when you look at women and children first, it’s probably the most difficult song to cover I would think. Bravo fellas
