I saw these guys in Memphis in 1994 with a group of good friends. We met Yow before the show and gave him our terrible demo tape. During the show, he seemed to zero in on me in particular to mess with. He kept opening beers from his stash and handing them to me. I was 16 at the time. At one point, he put his hand in my mouth and kind of massaged my tongue for a while. After the show, we met the whole band and they were all super cool people. David Yow had a passionate speech about how my girlfriend should stick with me because his wife Suzy was the best thing that ever happened to him. Well, 30 years later... I haven't seen that girl in a long time, but The Jesus Lizard is still the best thing that ever happened to me. And the new album is great.

Double D is such an underrated guitarist. In their 60's, TJL is still able to produce pure gold, in a genre that was supposedly reserved for those who aren't eligible for AARP. Fucking A, I can't wait to see them in Seattle next May.

A friend was at a Jesus Lizard show, at which David Yow did one of his famed audience pass-overs. He lost sight of David, so he turned back toward the stage. Suddenly he was startled by a shadow over him, and a moment later something wet and floppy got dragged over his head. He then realized with horror that the shadow was David, that someone in the crowd below had managed to pants David, and that the wet floppy thing was David's sweat-drenched Mister Johnson And The Boys, which had been dragged right over his head.

They sound like a weaker less energetic carbon copy of the JL in the early 90s. If the musicians are still good, Yow is completely gone. At least in Head, Pure, Goat and Liar he had voice. Nowadays he's like the punk version of Axl Rose, ready for giving his voice to some Disneyland Paris Villain. Unfortunately they sound the same, no evolution, the same three cards trick over and over again.
