@fallenblizzard24413 жыл бұрын
This is true but the speed of the animations has a lot to do with it as well. On android the animations are very fast and so the motion blur/choppy look is more prominent (obviously not denying the fact that the animations are inferior in some cases), this is why if you actually put the animations at 1.5x (IOS feels like its on 1.25x) on android the phone feels smoother.

I have stated this for the longest time, Tech reviewers make such a great and melodramatic statement about stuff that 99% of people woun't notice, just like putting a 4k screen on mobiles, make no difference. Jobs was right, beyond "retina display" the human eye can't tell the difference.
@daniel_960_3 жыл бұрын
Well you certainly can tell the difference beyond retina. Retina always stood for not being able to distinguish single pixels. The iPhone 11 720p screen is retina. Doesn’t look sharp at all compared to the oled iPhones, these they also call retina hd I think.

Well, on bigger phones you can see the difference between 1080p and a 2k display (if you look closely LOL), but not really on a phone smaller than 5 inches. However Apple knows that, if you see their advertising, they never say 2k displays, they focus more on color accuracy, contrast, brightness, those things most people can definitely notice between LCD and OLED displays and Apple does an excellent job in all of those areas.

To answer your question at the end of the video: yeah, that’s about the results I expected. I don’t expect a lot of people to notice the 120 Hz without something to compare it to side by side. And even those who notice, I expect to have difficulty pinning down what it is they’re noticing. In the same way that depending what you’re looking at a lot of people won’t notice HDR or wide gamut without a side-by-side comparison, and even if they do may not be able to identify what is different. There’s also the matter of priorities: for me, wide gamut is more important than retina resolution is more important than HDR is more important than high refresh rate. So I care a lot more about the DCI-P3 than any of the other screen changes the last few years, because it’s the one I notice the most in practice.

Its only when I bought the 11" iPad Pro and used it for over a year, and then happened to buy the latest iPad Air last year that I could really experience how jarring the difference is. I almost thought the iPad Air screen was defective in some way with the jerky scrolling. Right there with you. For how I use my phone, OLED has been in every way a (slight) downgrade from LCD. The ways in which OLED is better don’t particularly benefit me (I don’t like dark mode, so no battery savings for me, and I never had trouble seeing my iPhone 5 or SE’s screens outside, so I don’t really need the extra brightness-I typically keep my 11 Pro around 30%, and rarely push it past 50% brightness). The reaction of the non-tech people (or the lack of) to the 120hz display is probably the reason why delaying this feature has been a smart move from Apple. While tech people were complaining for years about the lack of this feature, Apple took the time to make sure it wouldn’t impact the overall experience of the phone (Es. battery life), and then sell it only to people who want their phone to be “Pro”. Also, it totally makes sense that this feature is not on the regular iPhone 13 by now.
