An hypothetical new Ipod should have: A better DAC with support for Hi Res audio formats, and not just ALAC (apple codec), should support FLAC, WAV, DSD, etc. 3.5 mm jack plug, yeah the "old thing", why? Because most of headphones with maximun quality sound have the 3.5 jack plug, ¿what about the airpods? Sorry but that crap is nothing compared to a real good headphone cable. The new ipod should be like an audiophiles DAPs in the market, oriented to have a better sound quality than the most of smartphones. DAPs like Fiio or Sony are a good example of a modern music player.

The one feature that we lost when the iPod Nano died in 2017 was the built in FM radio. It was a great tuner, and I loved to listen to the radio when I was out walking the dogs. I will never forget the feeling I had when I bought my first iPod (iPod Mini 1st Gen Blue color) in 2004 for my 14th birthday. I was seriously the first person in my grade at school to have one and I swear after a few months ALL of my friends either got one or wanted one. But the feeling of buying a song on iTunes and being able to instantly put it on my iPod was something I’d never experienced before in my life. I no longer had to carry around a case of CD’s and a Walkman, it was all right there. That was probably the most amazing consumer experience I’ve ever had. Waking up the next day and getting to bring my iPod to school was the most exciting feeling. I wish I could experience that kind of feeling again with a product.

Wow you totally brought me back to why I fell in love with Apple in the first place back in 2001 when I bought my first PowerMac G4. (JMO) Apple is poised to bring a better version of the “metaverse”. They have been building the foundations of it since Steve came back to Apple in ‘97. As you said the introduction of iTunes created a path towards an ecosystem that a lot of loyal users would rather not use technology than to leave their beloved iCloud. With everything that Apple has invented or put into place has built on that foundation to push the future forward. If that future is a “metaverse” Apple has and will create better versions of it. Not only does Apple have the data from iTunes to the iPhone Apple doesn’t need the iPod because it was the precursor to the future. The devices that are no longer with us are only the breadcrumbs liking Apples past to what they will do in the future.

I know some peoppe are holding hope that Apple will try to revive the iPod, but let's be honest, is there even a market for it? Let's try to think of the ideal iPod. Music player, video player, streaming service integration, multiple file type support, a headphone jack, speakers. The cheapest Android phone can probably do all of that, and have a phone and a full internet browser. Why would one buy an iPod when they already have a phone that can do all of that? Unfortunately, an iPod revival would mostly be for the nostalgia gimmick.

The mid 90s to mid to late 2000s, about a 10-15 year period, we saw more innovation and diversity of tech than any period before or since. As tech has mostly become a commodity, a daily tool we don't give much thought to today, that period had more excitement and more choice for those who wanted to continue doing things the old fashion way and those who were excited to try what the future had to offer. As a tech enthusiast growing up in that era, it's truly sad that innovation and choice especially is mostly a thing of the past and even more sad it is increasingly rare to get excited for where tech is headed.

I had a 1st gen shuffle (that I loaded with 90s club music for working out, and that's it) and a 4th gen Nano. The 4th gen nano was *perfect*. Even after I got a smartphone, I still used iPods to store my mp3s. The only difference now is that I usually stream music, except for a USB drive plugged into my car, and my record collection. I actually have a Garmin 245 Music, so I can go running without my phone, and it stores music that I stream via Bluetooth to my Bluetooth running headphones. Like my old 1st gen shuffle, I have a bunch of music mixes at various BPMs that I listen to while running (on the shuffle I had mainly individual songs, now I use 1-2 hour mixes). I have looked into modern mp3 players, because I don't like using my phone for that, and Sony has some pretty nice ones, but........I have an Amazon Music subscription and I can literally call up and stream almost any song in existence at any time on that, and my subscription custom generates playlists based on my tastes (and does a lot better job than spotify, etc used to). Streaming is what killed it for me. If I wasn't streaming music, I'd still use a seperate mp3 player.

I still have my iPod touch 5th gen and I use it almost every day for listening to my music. I like having my own library of music so the iPod touch allows me to have that and also allows me to use an Android for my phone.

If they made a modern iPod classic looking device, strictly for music and nothing else, able to run off of owned music from iTunes or streaming like Apple Music I would be buy it in a heartbeat

Am I the only one who would love to carry and rock an iPod even if I own a iPhone. Having a device just to listen to my songs and nothing else, it means something to me and I've been looking for a iPod classic everywhere but not able to find one :(

Fantastic video Jon, the iPod is my all time favourite product. I had a gen 4 back in the day and I absolutely loved it. I never went a day without using it.

If the 7th gen iPod touch had an A13 chip instead of an A10 I would definitely buy it just play Apple Arcade games and listen to music

As soon as music streaming services became a thing and you could use your phones for unlimited amounts of music, iPods became completely unnecessary.

It's not unnecessary at all I use my ipod still I don't like streaming services

@@theo5675 Yep, I have about 600 CD's at home ripped to iTunes and on my iPods. I have enough monthly bills that I don't want to pay to stream my music when I already own it.

@@theo5675 Same, I really tried but after 2 years I was sick of having to deal with phone stuff when listening to music, got out my old iPod nano and havent looked back, I now have a third Nano and 2 vintage classic iPods I use regularly and plan on installing a SSD when the original drives fail eventually.
