Yeah the 14 pro max does seem to over sharpen and clip the shadows when it doesn’t have to because of the new sensor, they’ll probably fix that with the 15 pro’s. The 14/14plus are using the larger 12mp sensor from the 13 pro’s with sensor shift and now with the new photonic engine the only difference’s are slight in low light and when you crop in which no average user crops in, they just take the picture and post it online. Both are good cameras

( Natural Color ) is what you’re aiming for. Bright colors don’t necessarily make the picture more detailed. I don’t know if you go back to 35mm cameras and keeping 35mm negatives. But an old school negative can be processed the way you want. If you want brighter or darker areas you can change it at will. Today it’s called Raw. There’s no way a still picture can compete with a raw picture because you can’t change the still. You can take the raw to a professional and have them calibrate the colors for you.

I'd argue pretty heavily against that. For the main lens, even in normal light with detail (such as her orange pants), but especially in low light, such as at 13:50 where the suture lines on the jean jacket are night and day different between the main lenses. Then again around 14:40 the iPhone 14 Pro main had a clear difference where even with a higher exposure/iso, there was both more detail and significantly less noise in the sky, the water, and the outfit.

@IvoKlerk2 жыл бұрын
Are people saying it’s worse? Haha. The iPhone 14 pro is way way better for professional photographers. The differences are night and day, mostly because of ProRaw. I have a heavy editing process where I take out all contrast and reapply it afterwards but distributed differently. An 8bit heic file gets shredded in the process. Also the mushy denoising artifacts are hideous. The end results for me are like a difference between a professional camera vs a toycamera. But for people who just use it for quick snapshots and only show it in a small format (i.e.: instagram), it’s maybe a little less noticing and less important

Wow, it's remarkable how great the 14 Pro's 48MP RAW images are. Around the 9:35 to 9:40 in one of the comparison of two similar shots on this video, I notice the clouds and sky on the iPhone 14 Pro (48MP RAW) looking much more washed out than on the iPhone 14 HEIC rendering of the clouds and sky. Is that something that can be rectified quite easily in LR after the fact, while processing the RAW image, or is the 48MP sensor simply not as good at capturing clouds and sky? Here's why I'm asking. I've been shooting 16:9 (at .5) of clouds and sky with my iPhone 11 Pro Max for years and I really love the results I get; so much so that when the iPhone 13 Pro Max came out I purchased one, only to return it the same day after spending an hour or so shooting C&S HEIC images with it, side by side with my 11 Pro Max. The eleven's rendering of clouds and sky consistently looked a lot better than the thirteen's. Any thoughts?

Hey, you may already know this by now but you're correct...somewhat. From my testing the raw photo doesn't always look the best straight out of camera, but it's meant to be edited and tweaked hence it being Raw. Once I upload the photo to lightroom and decrease the highlights it makes the world of difference to any clouds in the sky. Raw on the 14 pro truly is impressive for making pictures look more realistic.

even in the first comparison shots it’s clear that the 14 got a lot more sharpening applied. There are visible halos on contrast edges which show this quite clearly. An interesting try would then have been how the 14 pro 48mp image reacts to well done sharpening applied… enough to bring the details out without resorting into halo land. In regard to the 2x lens being no „optical“ zoom but just a crop: Technically, yes it is just a crop of the sensor of the 14 pro… but since the sensor is also bigger at the same time, it’s sensor pixels are nearly the same size as the one in the 12 MP sensor of the 14. So - in relation to the 14 it actually is similar to a 2x „optical“ zoom in any way to think of it. So from the standpoint of just getting 12 MP photos it behaves like having a real additional 2x module. You could do the same by cropping from the 48MP RAW of course. So the „2x“ zoom definitely makes sense as a camera feature for common use but of course isn’t magic. It’s a matter of perspective.

it is not an "optical zoom", it is a crop. So the center of the image is cropped, then reframed to take the entire size of the screen. But the two photos (48 or 12) are taken with the same optic. So it is optical.

I do wonder if the differences should be looked at more at a 'speed' perspective? One thing I've always disliked about phones is shot to shot times and ability to keep shutter speeds high without using a separate app. i.e. for chasing toddlers around in mid to low light. Maybe the 14 pro vs 14 comparison should be more like a Fujifilm XH2s vs XT4 or a Sony a9 vs Sony a7iv comparison. Not much difference in side by side image quality, but huge difference in keeper rate of non-static subjects. Just guessing. Haven't played around with a 14/14 Pro yet.

the 2x zoom is not a crop because when you shoot 1x in normal mode, it isn't reading out 48mp, the pixel binning happens on the sensor, it still comes out as a 12mp image. But when you shoot 2x, it reads out individual pixels in the center area, which is 12mp, there's no scaling happening and hence it is a true optical zoom. Another way you could think of it, is if you had another camera the same as the main, but with the sensor cropped in, is that camera a true 2x? Well it has to be isn't it? The existence of inactive sensor area doesn't make any difference does it?

No 120 hz screen No pill shape notch No 48mp camera No telephoto lens No proraw No prores No always on display No improvement in ultra wide No considerable improvement in nightmode Not even a flagship a16 processor No faster charging speed No bigger battery No improvement in display Same old notch Is the iPhone 14 or 14+ even worth it?seems like a huge scam by apple...

And at 8:06 comparing stabilization manually turned off via a third party app vs Action Mode... Of course Action Mode will look amazing this way. This is so misleading.

i believe the main sensor of the 14 Pro is so big that even if it's a 48 million pixels, each pixel are still bigger than the one on the 3x zoom. Coupled that with the f/1.8 lens instead of f/2.8, the main lens cropped in low light would probably look much better than the 3x lens. I'm getting my iPhone 14 Pro very soon and first thing i'm gonna test is that. i'm currently on the 13 Pro Max and it's 3x lens is complete garbage, it only looks good in perfect sunlight, even shade can make it look noisy and as far as i know, the 14 Pro's 3x is the exact same lens and sensor. Also i'm just not a fan of the 77mm equivalent field of view, it's too long to be practical in everyday scenarios like taking picture of people, but it's too short to really zoom on something far away, so i really told myself i would buy the 14 Pro if the 50mm equivalent did a comeback and it looks like it did 😄

to see the difference of the iphone 14 pro video and photo difference turn on the high efficiency option instead of most compatible to get the most of the new iphone

I would love to see how the Pro compares to a proper mirrorless/DSLR, does the tiny lens really have the power to resolve 48 MP? We all know proper high megapixel camera (R5/A7R) require very sharp lenses in order to show off their resolution, how about on phones?

In good light it does better than I ever expected! It sounds nuts but I shot back to back with the Fuji GFX 50sii and compared the shots…. I’m very good light the iPhone compared well. In poor light? Not so much.

Even if we compare iPhone 13 base model with 14 pro. Its hard to find the difference

I have had my iPhone 14 plus for awhile now and I will say my camera has captured some really good solid pictures and as for the 2,000 nits of brightness on the 14 pro models to me not a big deal I can see my phone in daylight just fine.

As a current Samsung Note 10 user wanting to jump into the iPhone, will the iPhone 14 still be a good buy? Or would you recommend the Pro?

interesting, I had the opposite preference on the raw/not raw comparisons. I didn't really like the way raw looked with the more faded colors. Excited to try macro mode, as with my 11 pro, if I ever want to take a picture of a small spider I have to download a separate app to do manual focus. Honestly I wish they would just add a manual focus setting built in without the need for extra apps.

When we talk about optical zoom on iPhones do we talk about telephoto lens or the main camera zooming in without digital zoom? The question is more about base iPhone (12,13,14 etc.) models who doesn't have telephoto lens. Do they have any optical zoom that doesn't sacrifice quality?
@zoehelkin2 жыл бұрын
Why does everybody miss testing the 3x lens without the software bullshit? Nobody uses Portrait mode, it looks horrendous. On my 13 Pro, the basic photo mode is insanely impressive without any added fake blur to the telephoto's results.

Fantastic video comparison. For people who use the iPhone to occasionally scan documents, how does the change in focus distance affect that?

Man, THANK YOU! For what I need, so pics for instagram, some videos of me playing bass and guitar and stuff like that, seems like the 14 is good enough.

The proRAW file has minimal sharpening and using Lightroom it has a much better interpretation of proper dynamic range. Where as if you shoot normally it's always over sharpened and with insanely unrealistic dynamic range. I compared the ProRAW to all kinds of different cameras I have and I'd say its performance is close to an APS-C senso. It's just that again, the default camera app shooting HEIC ruins the potential with sharpening and HDR.

I mean I could see using 48 megapixel Pro Raw images for landscapes during travel photography, I think it could benefit from the resolution and cropping ability, but aside from that I just don't see the use yet vs. the tradeoffs.

I shoot raw, and always have since the Pro Raw feature became available. I don’t carry a camera when traveling anymore. Also, it’s fun to edit the photos in my style when I can. When shooting raw, you really focus more on composition and your shot.
