I don't travel a lot necessarily, but I've always wanted a camera that I could take with me without having to worry about it getting damaged or stolen. The Pocket 3 fits this perfectly. It shoots 10-bit log footage and has good stabilization. So, I can leave my FX30 at home when traveling, knowing I can get decent footage from the Pocket 3. Thanks for the comparison. I upgraded to the 15 Pro Max in part because of your videos on it. I love that it’s a device I have in me all the time. I’ve captured plenty of great videos of the family that will last forever. That’s the advantage of the phone to me. It’s always on me so I’ll actually use it.

If you're traveling/doing adventure, the Ace Pro is probably best as it can do everything, including go under water. I dont like using my phone as a primary vlogging camera as I'm OCD about my phone's battery life. Osmo Pocket 3 is best if you're not going to get wet or doing under water stuff. But if I had to just buy one, it would be the Ace Pro.

Ace pro has removable batteries, better day light video than pocket 3… low light yes p3 is slightly better but nothing significant..the water proof and removable batteries make this a clear choice..ace pro….i don’t think i can compare iPhone to these. Great video…..one more thing insta ace pro app destroys DJI crappy app. 😊

what a detailed review.. I own an ace pro and iPhone 15 pro max, good to know that ace pro is a strong contender against iPhone as an action camera. 8K looks amazing. I will mostly do night shots and timelapse shots with ace pro and other regular scenery shots with iPhone.

Excellent and rational comparison. I would only comment that the gimbal on the Pocket 3 goes beyond stabilisation by greatly increasing creative possibilities, and is a great aid to shots where you want to include yourself without getting someone else to do the shooting. It is the usual thing - choose the right tool for the job. And if you can pop all three of these tools into your little camera bag, well, lucky you!

Thank you! Pocket 2 has high-res sensor, so it can use live cropping zoom, by only using pixels in the center of the frame. Pocket 3 only has simple digital magnification.

My pleasure! iPhone footage is unedited, some of the Pocket 3 and Ace Pro clips are sharpened in post, but using medium setting will pretty much give you the same result.

I own the pocket 3 and I have decided to sell it. While it is amazing, it feels a bit of a nuisance to use in comparison to my main camera and phone, especially with the ergonomics, it feels delicate. The video quality is also way above it's class, but only in perfect lighting. For these two reasons I think I will sell mine.

Nice video thanks. I own an iphone 13pro and ace pro. I really love about the ace pro, especially the flip screen and amazing low light performance as well as the quick release mount. Pocket 3 is somehow fragile in my use case and not waterproof so I didn't think of getting it.

Excellent review. The industry has come very far in the past few years! Personally I have an iPhone 15 pro for wide angle shots and video while moving, and a Sony a6600 for portraits and longer focal lengths’ shots and that’s all I could ask for as a regular consumer. An action camera may be my next purchase for more active shots.

Hi, nice comparison. Question to Pocket 3 gimbal - no calibration needed? That has always been pain with gimbals. I am using Hohem gimbal for Osmo Action 1 and am not very happy with keeping camera's horizontal level. I often have to adjust it using a button on the gimbal. Unfortunately, Osmo 1 does not have automatic horizontal leveling. That is available from Osmo 3 (if I remember well)

I sold my Sony ZV-1 as I am not a camera type of guy and stabilization is better on anything. Right now I am rocking a Galaxy S23+ and have recently bought the Insta360 AcePro.

Vertical shooting has nothing to with the fact that almost every gimbal is 3 axis gimbal, meaning that the vertical axis is not stabilized. Vertical shooting is not affected more or less than horizontal.

I have my reasons why I don't mention 3rd party "pro" apps and ProRes / Log options. A device such as iPhone that is being used by general public should be capable of providing the best possible results out of the camera. Having to tinker with 3rd party apps IMO defeats the main point of smartphone camera which is the convenience.

I bought the AcePro but after just a few days it developed a fault. Battery took 3.5 hours to charge and then depleted quickly. I saw others on Reddit had same issue. I contacted their support but they took weeks to respond. In the meantime I returned it. I accept I may have just been unlucky but I have no confidence it would not occur again. A pity.

No, it is nowhere near what proper FF camera can do, what you see out of the camera is basically just a creative choice of the manufacturers. There are specific signs that give away that a camera is using LTM and the Pocket 3 is not showing them.

The reason why I ignore pro features in general videos: Log and RAW capabilities of the 15 Pro are great, but the problem is that are way too difficult to work with for the general public. People who actually know how to work with them properly already have DSLM cameras that vastly surpass 15 Pro capabilities, so real-world benefits of very Pro features on the 15 Pro are somewhat questionable.

I was under the impression that the iPhone 15 Pro had been praised for being the first smartphone to be usable in a pro workflow by many sites and youtubers like CineD, SlashCam, Gerald Undone, PetaPixel, etc. The gradability and much reduced sharpening / noise reduction make the footage usable alongside DSLMs. I own three DSLM and do not use them nearly as much as my iPhone. Log recording is the main feature of the 15 Pro camera setup and you missed it. I would be surprised if your audience did not care for true pro features.

Everyone has a smartphone. If someone wants a better camera , Iphone is a complete no. It's way more expensive than the other two. Pocket 3 takes way more video than iphone. It also takes very nice pictures. Insta360 ace pro is not bad either. Best choice Pocket 3.

No need to buy more smartphones for camera , which is also very expensive. Double the price of pocket 3. So, pocket 3 is the best choice. Better video quality in almost every situations. Less expensive than Iphone 15 pro or max version with amazing stability .

Some people may be deciding whether they should use the money to buy a more expensive smartphone that they need to upgrade anyway. Other people may not want to carry a separate device, so the Pocket 3 is not an option for them at all. 20mm focal length of the P3 is also not suitable for everything, some people might want more usable zoom... Again, saying that one option is universally the best is totally pointless. I do side-by-side comparisons, that is how. Yes, 4K quality is very similar.
